Requirements
  • Some high school coursework; completion of high school is an asset.
  • A minimum of one year of related experience or experience working in customer service.
  • Money-handling experience is an asset.
  • Experience in office administration.
  • Experience using general office equipment, Microsoft Word word processing, and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, personal vehicle, insurance, and a satisfactory current driver’s abstract are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced office setting, with attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to lift or move 9 to 12 kilograms (20 to 25 pounds).
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling donor, volunteer, and organizational information.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks, including an Abuse Registry check, and provide an original background-check screening copy.
  • Ability and willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada and their implications for the position.
Responsibilities
  • Attend training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Support delivery of kettles to zone locations before staff and volunteers arrive at campaign onset.
  • Ensure donations are delivered to a secure location at the end of each shift.
  • Communicate daily issues and supply deficiencies to the supervisor.
  • Orient and remind staff and volunteers about proper kettle handling and duties.
  • Supervise, support, and assign staff and volunteers throughout the campaign.
  • Visit locations during shift changes and intermittently.
  • Ensure timesheets and mileage reports are submitted accurately and on a weekly basis.
  • Remain at the kettle for the full shift until relieved, ensuring the security of donations.
  • Respond to donor questions about Salvation Army ministries and programs.
  • Promote, coordinate, and oversee Christmas Kettle Campaign Worker activities.
  • Oversee campaign operations, including staff and volunteer scheduling.
  • Participate in recruiting kettle-worker staff and volunteers.
  • Provide orientation and performance management for kettle-worker staff and volunteers.
  • Coordinate kettle staff and volunteer schedules and respond to emergency absences.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with kettle sites.
  • Coordinate daily delivery and pickup of kettles and ensure donation security.
  • Host at a kettle as required to provide coverage for breaks.
  • Ensure kettle locations have adequate supplies and literature.
  • Record statistical data and prepare weekly timesheets.
  • Organize retrieval of equipment and supplies from kettle locations after the campaign.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
