Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Q2 2026 sales rose 6.6% to $25.3 billion, and guidance topped $101 billion.
  • TECVAYLI's March 2026 approval and TREMFYA's May expansion expand growth before 2027.
  • The July 27, 2026 talc deal removes roughly 76,000 claims and litigation expense.

What critics are saying

  • Stelara sales fell 55.7% in Q2 2026 as Amgen and Sandoz biosimilars flooded pricing.
  • The July 2026 talc settlement still depends on 95% claimant acceptance by 2027.
  • A failed talc resolution or mega-verdict forces asbestos-style reserves, capital strain, and dividend pressure.

What makes Johnson & Johnson unique

  • J&J owns leading franchises in oncology, immunology, and medtech, spanning hospitals and consumers.
  • TECVAYLI plus DARZALEX FASPRO won U.S. approval on March 5, 2026, in earlier-line myeloma.
  • TREMFYA's May 28, 2026 label now claims joint-damage inhibition, unlike rival IL-23s.

J&J's TECVAYLI plus daratumumab approved in Europe for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma

The European Commission has approved Johnson & Johnson's TECVAYLI (teclistamab) combined with daratumumab for treating adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma who have received at least one prior therapy. The approval, based on Phase 3 data, makes this immunotherapy doublet available as early as second-line treatment. The combination demonstrated statistically significant improvements in progression-free and overall survival versus standard care regimens. The drugs work complementarily, with daratumumab modulating the immune system to enhance T-cell fitness and activation, amplifying teclistamab's ability to kill myeloma cells. Over 90% of patients who were progression-free at six months remained so at three years. The treatment offers an off-the-shelf, steroid-sparing immunotherapy option for patients who often experience shorter remissions with each subsequent therapy line.

J&J CEO signals double-digit growth by decade's end on new drug launches

Johnson & Johnson's chief executive says the company has a "line of sight to double-digit growth by the end of the decade", driven by three newer drugs: Icotyde, Inlexzo and Rybrevant. The pharmaceutical company spun off its healthcare division Kenvue in May 2023 to focus on pharmaceuticals and medical technology. The strategy appears to be working: J&J's share price has risen 55.5% over the past year, compared to 20.7% for the S&P 500. Second-quarter 2026 revenue climbed 6.6% year-over-year to $25.3 billion, primarily driven by its pharmaceutical segment. Tremfya, a drug for inflammatory bowel disease and psoriasis, saw sales jump 72.5% to $2 billion, whilst Darzalex reached $4.2 billion in sales.

Johnson & Johnson rises 57% in 12 months with near-zero correlation to S&P 500

Johnson & Johnson has gained 4.4% over the past five trading days whilst the S&P 500 slipped 0.5%. The stock is up 57.3% over the trailing twelve months. Over the past five years, JNJ's correlation to the S&P 500 has been just 0.16, meaning it moves largely independently of the broad market. This independence delivered an annualised return of 11.8% at 17.5% volatility, compared to the index's 13.2% at 17.2% volatility. The company's operational sales grew 5.6% in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $25.3 billion, even as STELARA declined 55.7% under biosimilar competition. TREMFYA grew 71% and now leads new-patient starts in both ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Over the past year, on days when the S&P 500 fell, JNJ moved approximately 65% in the opposite direction.

J&J leads Delix's $85M Series C with right of first negotiation on neuroplasticity drug

Johnson & Johnson will lead an $85 million Series C for Delix Therapeutics at a $190 million pre-money valuation. The biotech develops non-hallucinogenic drugs to promote neuroplasticity in psychiatric patients. J&J's term sheet includes a right of first negotiation following Phase II data from Delix's lead compound, DLX-001. This positions J&J as first in line for potential acquisition discussions. Delix announced positive Phase II results in October 2025, showing rapid and durable reductions in depressive symptoms. The FDA cleared a Phase II design allowing patients to self-administer the compound at home. J&J brings relevant experience through Spravato, its FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression. Delix's at-home dosing model offers scalability that Spravato lacks. The financing has not yet closed.
