Position Description
The Assistant Controller position, reporting to the Controller and other Company partners, will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, implementing and maintaining internal controls, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company’s growth initiatives.
The Assistant Controller is a regular, full-time position, and is eligible for our generous employee benefits package, including employer paid health insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions, and other great benefits.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Prepare technical accounting memos, research and provide clear guidance on complex accounting standards.
- Work closely with management team for balance sheet reviews, reporting and monitor variances to budget and prior year.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies.
- Assist with process improvement and monitoring around Procure to Pay process, budgeting, reporting and transfer pricing.
- Manage and mentor accounting staff, providing leadership, guidance, and training as needed.
- Collaborate with external auditors and tax advisors to facilitate annual audits and tax filings.
- Analyze financial data and performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Support strategic decision-making by providing financial analysis, modeling, and recommendations to senior management.
- Evaluate and implement accounting software and systems enhancements to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Controller or CFO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or advanced degree (e.g., Master of Accounting) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in the renewable energy industry or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with technical accounting memos.
- Experience with project finance, complex loan structures, multiple entities, tax equity and construction accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (SAP), financial reporting software (OneStream, Essbase) and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to sustainability and passion for the renewable energy industry.
- Expertise and understanding of relevant tax and GAAP regulations, contractual matters and analytical models.
