Position Specific Summary
The Water Operations Supervisor position in the City of Tucson’s Water Department supervises timely and accurate location of underground water facilities to prevent damage and maintain compliance with regulatory deadlines for the Line Location division. This position monitors, prioritizes, and distributes work , ensuring all tasks are completed within the two-working-day deadline and coordinates with internal departments to support facility location requests, and trains and evaluates personnel and provides daily direction and instruction.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Program Superintendent. This position exercises supervision over Water Infrastructure Utility Locators.
Duties and Responsibilities
Monitors and locates underground facilities using AZ811 map database. Distributes work to perform maintenance and prevent damage to underground facilities in order to meet regulatory requirements. Interprets and translates locations of assets.
Tracks and prioritizes ticket assignments via AZ811 for timely completion. Maintains and updates database to reflect Water asset data.
Interprets and translates as built documentation to accurately reflect field locations of assets. Coordinates with Water departments, internal and external customers to assist in asset location requests.
Investigates facility damage incidents to determine fault. Analyzes and locates field data, and initiates corrective actions to prevent future damage. Provides training to address faulty work practices contributing to facility damage.
Documents and records facility damage incidents via Infor/Hexagon, Utilisphere, and field reports.
Implements and oversees new projects, such as the GPS asset location initiative and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) operations. Operates Trimble GPS units and ArcGIS mapping products to record and guide asset location.
Supervises and coordinates the daily work of assigned staff by determining priorities, monitoring levels of resources, establishing timelines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and providing suggestions. Participates in the recruitment, hiring, and training of employees. Makes recommendations on employee discipline and other personnel issues. Assists with establishing performance expectations, goals, and metrics for field employees. Conducts regular performance evaluations, provides feedback, and recognizes outstanding performance. Enforces and implements safety policies. Monitors employee leave, training, special projects, and standby needs to ensure proper staffing levels.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
Night, weekend, and on-call availability may be required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
6 months post high school
Experience
Four (4) years of directly related experience
Equivalency
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
License/Certifications
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Preferred Qualifications
Underground utility construction

Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Water Distribution Grade 1 Certification is required AT THE TIME OF HIRE.
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Water Distribution Grade 2 Certification is required within 12 months of hire.
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality Water Treatment Grade 1 Certification is required within 12 months of hire.
