Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Heartsaver certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Accurate computer data entry skills.
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Basic proficiency in computer use.
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and families; schedule patient appointments and hospital and ambulatory admissions and procedures; and ensure appropriate action is taken in a timely manner.
  • Answer telephone calls promptly, address callers’ needs, direct calls appropriately, take accurate messages, and deliver them to the appropriate individual.
  • Schedule future appointments and tests and complete physician-ordered referrals.
  • Maintain communication resources, including on-call schedules and physician telephone and pager numbers.
  • Prepare charts for new patients, ensure required forms are placed appropriately, and convert temporary records to permanent records before the end of the day.
  • Request medical records and prepare charts so physicians have the information needed before examinations, evaluations, procedures, or treatments; print the minimum necessary medical-record information from the electronic record when a chart is unavailable.
  • Reconcile encounters daily according to policy and guidelines.
  • Monitor supply inventory and complete or direct requisitions for supplies, forms, equipment, or services.
  • Perform clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, filing, and mailings.
  • Obtain, verify, and update patient information while maintaining confidentiality according to policy.
  • Complete all necessary patient forms accurately.
  • Respect patient rights by knocking before entering, calling patients by name, and identifying oneself before entering a patient’s room.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with physicians and nursing staff.
  • Protect the privacy and confidentiality of patients and employees.
  • Communicate problems, equipment concerns, or issues promptly to the Nurse Manager.
  • Book and schedule inpatient, outpatient, and special procedures.
  • Arrange specialty equipment and services and coordinate with outside vendors and contracted services.
  • Submit necessary hospital documents and collect pre-admission testing data.
  • Apply insurance and pre-certification requirements.
  • Arrange, type, and distribute schedules.
  • Maintain office supplies and equipment.
  • Provide training to other office staff.
  • Log surgical procedures.
  • Maintain the scheduling system and reschedule or cancel procedures as needed.
  • Use customer service skills to alleviate patient anxiety and communicate effectively with peers.
  • Collate and submit information.
  • Communicate repair orders to appropriate personnel.
  • Use sound judgment when scheduling procedures to increase physician productivity.
  • Follow fire safety and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other assigned job duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree is preferred.
  • Previous Patient Services Representative experience is preferred.
  • Previous office experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical office terminology is preferred.
  • Previous experience with standard office technology in a Windows-based environment is preferred.
  • Experience with electronic health records, practice management systems, and departmental or ancillary systems is preferred.

Walgreens Boots Alliance-backed healthcare clinic chain VillageMD is reportedly working with advisers to explore a sale, restructuring or other options. This move comes after Walgreens CEO Tim Wentworth said during a January earnings call that the company plans to divest VillageMD, Bloomberg reported Wednesday (Feb. 12). A Walgreens spokesperson told Bloomberg that Walgreens “is continuing to work toward executing its stated goal of securing an endpoint for its investment in VillageMD, consistent with Walgreens’ turnaround strategy.”
