Requirements
  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Training course or an associate degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited college.
  • Documented experience in the medical field and in work acting in such capacity.
  • Have and maintain current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate with patients and other staff members.
  • Have knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in basic word processing, data entry, and automated records.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure all treatment requested by the provider has been scheduled or ordered.
  • Greet all visitors and determine the nature of the visit.
  • Check patient medical records and place them in the appropriate location.
  • Ensure third-party collection forms are current and supporting medical-record documents are properly identified.
  • Screen walk-in patients for eligibility for treatment.
  • Make medical identification cards and complete third-party insurance information and advance-directives paperwork when necessary.
  • Answer telephone calls within 30 seconds, obtain identifying information, determine call urgency, and refer callers to appropriate staff.
  • Take messages, apply clinic guidelines concerning release of patient information, and transfer misdirected calls to the appropriate number.
  • Attempt to resolve administrative complaints and refer other complaints to the appropriate authority.
  • Provide requested information and assistance to patients or refer them to appropriate information sources.
  • Maintain and stock forms and inventory needed at the front desk.
  • Obtain pathology reports, X-rays, and other results from specialty areas.
  • Track selected reports, including logging returned pathology reports in a computerized database.
  • Type routine correspondence, medical statements, and memorandums as directed by clinical staff.
