Requirements
  • NCSO designation with all courses current and a minimum of five years of experience as a safety professional in the construction industry.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • CSA-approved steel-toed boots with six-inch ankle support.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code.
  • Proficiency with database applications and administration systems, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work effectively alone and prioritize work.
  • Successful completion of drug and alcohol testing, company orientation, and site-specific orientation.
Responsibilities
  • Provide field-level health and safety support and build relationships with construction and maintenance teams.
  • Support the Safety department with safety orientations, safety training, and drug and alcohol testing.
  • Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations and Code, and recommend their implementation.
  • Assist in developing and leading morning PSI and weekly safety meetings.
  • Perform job-site safety compliance inspections, including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports, and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely completion of workplace incident investigations and reporting to the Corporate Office.
  • Monitor adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors.
  • Deliver new-hire safety orientations and conduct pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
  • Research, plan, organize, and conduct training programs and seminars.
  • Provide advice and counsel to management and employee groups on occupational safety issues and decisions.
  • Periodically act as a team leader for special projects and health and safety committees.
  • Provide direction and guidance to less experienced occupational safety personnel.
