Requirements
  • A Ph.D. in one of the biological, biochemical, or bioengineering sciences.
  • Three or more years of research experience as a Postdoctoral Scholar or Research Scientist.
  • Critical thinking, interpersonal relationship, and technical skills.
  • Communication skills for presenting, grant writing, and manuscript submissions.
Responsibilities
  • Work with a principal investigator or faculty mentor to design and perform research focused on relevant areas in cancer biology.
  • Interpret experimental results and data for use in publications and grants, and determine the next steps needed to advance the research.
  • Perform routine animal maintenance, surgery, and model generation.
  • Assist the principal investigator with drafting grant proposals and manuscripts.
  • Develop an independent research program, including writing grant proposals and publishing research.
  • Train and mentor students, postdoctoral fellows, and research assistants.
  • Present research aims and findings at department seminars and scientific meetings, and write and publish results as first author in abstracts, manuscripts, and posters.
  • Interact with University of Kansas Cancer Center donors and local cancer affiliates.
  • Complete required orientation and training sessions, maintain compliance, follow Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and biosafety protocols, and attend departmental seminars and regular laboratory meetings.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance and order supplies.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the faculty mentor, including outreach to prospective minority students.
  • Participate in the planning, execution, publication, and presentation of experiments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three or more years of research experience working in cancer biology or a related field.
  • Experience managing collaborative research projects.
  • Advanced animal research experience.
  • Biochemical and biological knowledge.
  • Expert knowledge in DNA integrity research.
