Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree, preferably in a biological sciences field, or equivalent experience in organ transplantation.
  • Three years of progressive experience in organ transplantation or a related field, or one year of experience as an Organ Recovery Specialist 1 at OSUWMC demonstrating excellent performance of all basic position requirements.
  • Demonstrated competency to meet essential job functions.
  • Knowledge related to healthcare and transplant issues, evidence-based practice, quality improvement and cost reduction, and current policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Continuous on-call availability for transplant-center organ procurement coverage.
  • Successful completion of a background check; a drug screen or physical may be required during the post-offer process.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and lead the organ transplant process from the time of organ offer through transplant.
  • Receive and record potential donor organ information from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network contractor and communicate as needed with the host Organ Procurement Organization.
  • Contact attending physicians or fellows and accurately communicate pertinent information.
  • Contact the on-call Pre-Transplant Coordinator to contact potential recipients.
  • Contact the Operating Room control desk, surgeons, fellows, and other staff to coordinate recipient Operating Room logistics.
  • Mobilize the procurement team.
  • Secure appropriate transportation for the procurement team.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the donor operation, including travel to and perfusion of deceased donor organs being recovered.
  • Coordinate and communicate with all team members to ensure a smooth recipient operation.
  • Ensure that necessary supplies are available at all times for procurement.
  • Assist with development and review of policies and procedures related to compliance with Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate educational services with clinical staff regarding organ procurement policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certification as a Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC).
  • Certification as a Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP).
