Requirements
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from an ABET-accredited school.
  • Candidates must have 3–6 years of professional experience in transportation engineering design or plan production.
  • Candidates must demonstrate professional experience and fundamental skills with OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, and Geopak.
  • Candidates must hold a certified Engineer-in-Training credential or be able to obtain licensure within six months.
  • Candidates must possess strong technical skills and be able to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Candidates must complete a criminal background check.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare plans and perform quantity calculations, geometric design, drainage design, pavement marking and signing, maintenance of traffic, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Use OpenRoads Designer, MicroStation, Microsoft Office, and other design software in collaboration with engineers, technicians, planners, and surveyors.
  • Participate in occasional field data collection and other non-design engineering activities when requested.
  • Receive instructions from project managers or senior project engineers regarding expected results.
  • Research design options and document findings for the senior project engineer.
  • Keep the senior project manager informed about workload and changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
  • Interact with clients and the design team throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Work with other teams on multidisciplinary transportation projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Background in preliminary engineering or development of detailed plans and specifications.
  • Roadway or transportation-related design and plan production experience in Illinois.
  • Basic 3D modeling skills and familiarity with OpenRoads Designer.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu.
  • Professional Engineer licensure.
