Requirements
  • A college degree or related previous experience is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience with claim submission, payment posting, appeals and denial processes, medical device billing and/or general healthcare reimbursement, and Medicare and commercial insurance carrier plan configurations involving coinsurance, deductibles, and percentage calculations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft products, including Excel.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make recommendations.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to manage a high volume of work and process information on time.
  • Attention to detail when maintaining patient records and insurance information.

Responsibilities
  • Review, verify, and process patient financial hardship applications and supporting documentation; determine eligibility and adjust accounts or apply discounts according to approved policies.
  • Explain complex medical bills, outstanding balances, insurance coinsurance, and deductibles to patients.
  • De-escalate tense situations involving financial confusion or billing discrepancies and coordinate with insurance verification or coding departments to resolve disputed balances.
  • Evaluate patient financial situations to establish sustainable monthly payment arrangements, document agreements in the billing system, monitor active payment plans, and follow up on delinquent accounts.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients experiencing financial stress while maintaining confidentiality and compliant communication.
  • Process and post electronic funds transfers, credit card, automated clearing house, live check, insurance, and patient payments.
  • Research insurance payments and correspondence for accuracy; match explanation of benefits and payment records; process write-offs; and batch, scan, and retain payment records.
  • Submit claims and patient statements accurately and timely for primary, secondary, and tertiary payers.
  • Review rejected claims, perform corrections, and resubmit claims as appropriate.
  • Submit contract billing partner billing to the appropriate outsourced partner.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and patient accounts, work assigned outstanding-balance lists, and resolve multifaceted payer and patient account issues.
  • Identify trends, conduct follow-up, and perform root cause analysis on unpaid and underpaid insurance claims.
  • Analyze and resolve billing discrepancies on patient accounts and communicate findings to patients.
  • Draft appeals, research remediation and appeals, rebill claims, and resolve payer issues to overturn denied or underpaid claims.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, financial standards, and internal policies.
  • Prepare year-end schedules for review and regulatory agencies and assist in monitoring Medicare compliance.
  • Support documentation, process creation, and training related to the quality management system.
