Requirements
  • Successful completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing in a recognized advanced practice registered nurse specialty, a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant/Associate Studies from an accredited program, or an appropriate equivalent degree and certification.
  • At least 2 years of advanced practice patient management experience in acute or critical care, preferably with surgical patients.
  • Ability to satisfy standards of performance required by law and applicable professional practice standards.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency using computing hardware and software, electronic medical records, word-processing software, and spreadsheet software.
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work.
  • Current licensure as required by the applicable Advanced Practice Provider governing board.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, efficient, high-quality, and customer-oriented management of patient care for identified patient populations.
  • Complete comprehensive patient assessments and develop, monitor, and revise evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Treat common acute and chronic health problems; interpret diagnostic tests; prescribe and manage medications and other therapies; provide health teaching focused on prevention and health maintenance; and refer patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Evaluate and manage patients requiring postoperative care following a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and complete required follow-up management.
  • Advance patient progress toward discharge and provide patient and family education.
  • Complete progress notes and documentation of significant events in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with or escalate challenging and emergent patient situations to the surgical and procedural teams.
  • Manage emergency patient situations.
  • Identify and recommend enhancements to clinical quality, patient experience, length of stay, and standards of care.
  • Assess and recommend initiatives to improve performance indicators related to patient experience, quality, and costs.
  • Maintain professional development consistent with ongoing certification requirements.
  • Participate in relevant clinical research activities and complete regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in the design, development, and assessment of curricula for professional specialty programs.
  • Teach program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes and provide academic advising and career-related counseling.
  • Monitor student retention and identify and assist students who are at risk.
  • Provide individual instruction and clinical support to fellows, residents, graduate advanced practice provider students, and other clinical learners.
  • Instruct and review practices, policies, and procedures related to treatment plans, clinical diagnostic data, orders, patient and family communication, medical equipment, electronic medical records, procedures, and transitions to the next level of care.
  • Ensure adherence to specialty-specific protocols, best practices, quality standards, and organizational indicators.
  • Provide input on the performance of residents and graduate advanced practice provider students in the practice setting.
Desired Qualifications
