Requirements
  • Must have less than 1 year of previous experience in the field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check, including a previous employment check and criminal history check.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity.
  • Required to exert physical effort handling objects weighing more than 25 pounds frequently.
  • Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 70 pounds.
  • Normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or riding in a video- and GPS-monitored vehicle.
  • Will be exposed to dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar elements for most of the workday.
Responsibilities
  • Team with the route driver and assist in the collection of waste and recyclable material.
  • Work in accordance with Waste Management safety and life-critical rules, Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Immediately report unsafe situations or service-related issues to the route manager or dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by Waste Management or directed by the route manager.
  • Manually or mechanically load and empty residential or commercial containers into the truck.
  • Stage containers curbside, dockside, or carryout, or pull them out as needed to complete service.
  • Operate a hoisting device to lift and empty bins or containers into the truck hopper.
  • Assist the driver with all backing maneuvers while on route.
  • Notify the route manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notify the route manager or dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to dispatch or the route manager.
  • Perform duties scheduled by the route manager or dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to acquire a commercial driver's license.
