Requirements
  • Board eligible or board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine or the American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine
  • Career emergency medicine physician with clinical and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated interest, knowledge and ability in the leadership, financial, managerial, and marketing aspects of emergency medicine
  • Meets and maintains State Licensure and credentialing requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to speak effectively on administrative and clinical matters related to emergency medicine
Responsibilities
  • Provides leadership, education, research, planning, organization, staffing, coordination, and evaluation of (insert region) emergency department activities
  • Acts as liaison with departmental, educational, scholarship, research, hospital administration, and medical staff
  • Provides leadership and management for the emergency departments
  • Works cooperatively and supportively with the medical staff to provide emergency services for all patients who present to the emergency departments
  • Works cooperatively and supportively with local hospital departments to ensure availability, quality, and effective use of services
  • Monitors regional needs and provides input into local and regional emergency medical services system and disaster planning
  • Assists site directors with scheduling and coordinates coverage of open ED Physician and Advanced Practice Provider shifts
  • Addresses patient, staff, and medical staff issues and complaints in compliance with processes
  • Assists with recruiting and oversees Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to staff the Regional EDs
  • Ensures evaluations, credentialing, and other forms are completed and signed in a timely manner
  • Collaborates with local ED Leadership teams to ensure departmental performance meets standards described in medical staff rules and regulations, hospital bylaws, departmental policies, JCAHO Manual of Accreditation, and other standards
  • Works with local ED leadership teams to ensure department meets defined objectives for improvement, growth, and expansion of services
  • Builds enthusiasm, stability, teamwork, and competence among employees through supervision, evaluation, counseling, training, and praise
  • Ensures departmental policies are known, understood, and implemented by emergency physicians and Advanced Practice Providers
  • Ensures adequacy of EMS communications and physician EMS command
  • Is accessible during usual business hours for routine business
  • Serves on state, regional, departmental and hospital committees as assigned
  • Assists with local departmental peer review process as needed
  • Performs or assists with process implementation as assigned by leadership
  • Reviews monthly hours reports to department administration
  • Provides input into compensation and incentives
  • Available for counseling, advice, information, and support to physicians and other department members
  • Reinforces mentorship of Advanced Practice Providers
  • Monitors quality data and dashboards and identifies opportunities/plans for improvement
  • Participates in continuing education of physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, residents, fellows, medical students, nurses, and other ED personnel
  • Encourages involvement in prehospital training and education
  • Encourages outreach to the community, media, and industry on topics in emergency medicine
  • Promotes regional hospitals medical capabilities
  • At least 67 hours per month of Administrative Effort
  • Scheduled weekly hours: 40
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in leadership, financial, managerial, and marketing aspects of emergency medicine
  • Board certification in emergency medicine (listed as requirement, but could be desirable if separate; included here as stated: board certified is required)
