Requirements
  • Minimum two years of experience in customer care, account management, or a similar role.
  • Ability to read and understand the Explanation of Benefits or Electronic Remittance Advice.
  • Understanding of the difference between rejections and denials and experience working accounts.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Ability to manage periods of high call volume and multitask.
  • Ability to receive and implement feedback.
  • Computer literacy and typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
  • Experience working in an active office environment.
  • Ability to work with two monitors and split screens to operate multiple sites simultaneously.
  • Ability to sit or stand for a minimum of eight hours in an office environment.
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, email, chat applications, workflow sites, and other software applications.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply job-related rules, policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Place and receive calls regarding billing, insurance questions, and other patient service activities.
  • Process accounts according to the action required to resolve account balances.
  • Communicate with customers, agencies, facilities, and hospitals.
  • Employ one-step resolution practices for clients and patients through open lines of communication.
  • Research patient accounts to verify health insurance coverage and audit accounts to verify that the proper billing process was followed.
  • Screen and professionally address emails, faxes, mail, and other correspondence.
  • Ensure accuracy in data entry and consistent attention to detail.
  • Collect outstanding balances and identify, address, and resolve account discrepancies while following company and billing policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with insurance and local, state, and federal billing requirements.
  • Complete tasks efficiently both individually and in a group environment.
  • Handle assigned correspondence and perform other duties assigned by managerial staff.
  • Scan and input information from hospital faxes to update accounts for billing.
  • Bill insurance using paper claims and follow the guidelines of individual payors.
  • Review patient mail and attach documents containing verifiable information to patient accounts.
  • Complete insurance verification as needed.
  • Complete prebilling training to qualify for the role.
  • Utilize payer portals to check claim status, update patients' insurance policies, review or update ICD-10 codes, work CMS-1500 forms, communicate with attorneys, and process payments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Healthcare knowledge is preferred.
  • College is preferred but not required.
