Requirements
  • A high school diploma, some college, or equivalent education is required.
  • Previous registration experience, a medical insurance background, knowledge of medical terminology, and knowledge of Current Procedural Terminology codes are required.
  • Customer service, interviewing, data accumulation, computer and keyboard skills, and internet knowledge are required.
Responsibilities
  • Interview patients efficiently and courteously to obtain pertinent demographic and insurance information.
  • Secure signatures for timely reimbursement and ensure that consents are signed for the service being rendered.
  • Complete patient searches for new and prior hospital visits to identify the correct patient and prevent duplicate medical record numbers.
  • Scan insurance cards, prescriptions, patient identification, and pertinent documentation.
  • Complete insurance verification through Relay, telephone, fax, or an insurance website.
  • Obtain appropriate authorization and referral information under Managed Care guidelines, document pertinent information in notes, and enter it into the appropriate registration fields.
  • Collect co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and self-pay amounts at the point of service.
