Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school/GED program.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitates the daily scheduling of the detention hearing dockets and coordinates with the Courts in scheduling all pre-disposition hearings.
  • Manages the detention release process for the Juvenile Courts.
  • Monitors and evaluates dockets to determine the status of juveniles listed and to ensure they are in detention no longer than necessary.
  • Researches, compiles and analyzes data concerning various aspects of the detention population.
  • Manages the home detention and day reporting programs and maintains knowledge of community-based services to make appropriate recommendations for release.
  • Collaborates with staff, courts, other departments and external agencies in resolving population issues or creating corrective action plans related to the detention population.
  • Serves as back-up to staff and assumes all duties as necessary, i.e., administering medications, transporting youths to appointments, processing intake assessments or discharges, and disciplining youths. Must be physically able to perform “handling with care techniques, including takedowns, chasing and restraining youth” as outlined in the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) requirement.
