Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Technology program and certification as a General Medical Laboratory Technologist through the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Membership in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.
  • Experience in a hospital histology laboratory.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem recognition and problem-solving skills.
  • Time management skills and the ability to organize work and set priorities.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work effectively, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to perform the bona fide duties of the position and the duties outlined in the Job Demands Analysis.
  • Ability to comply with workplace health and safety requirements and policies.
Responsibilities
  • Process, embed, section by microtomy, and perform hematoxylin and eosin staining of surgical specimens in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
  • Perform special staining and immunohistochemistry on sectioned slides.
  • Perform equipment and inventory maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to histology and immunohistochemistry.
  • Participate in validation of new procedures.
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of laboratory policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Provide training and support to physicians, staff, and students.
  • Perform quality control activities, contribute to quality assurance processes, and maintain documentation in compliance with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics standards.
  • Collaborate with the Team Lead to perform gap analyses, implement process improvements aligned with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics requirements, and support accreditation activities, including working with assessors as required.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment.
