Requirements
  • Registered nurse licensed by State Board of Nursing in the state of employment. License must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing in the state of employment.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification is required within thirty (30) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within sixty (60) days of date-of-hire. Annual re-certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility for the direction and coordination of all functions of the unit on the designated shift.
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team for ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided on the unit.
  • Provides oversight of patient care and safety, patient and family advocacy, and expertise in seclusion and restraint process.
  • Meets with patients and/or staff when patient is experiencing compliance struggles and demonstrates support to patient and treatment process.
  • Monitors staff to ensure an efficient, safe, and productive work environment including delegation of staff assignments.
  • Provides necessary staff coaching and support, under the direction of nursing leadership.
  • Oversees orientation of new employees, providing direction and coaching as needed.
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to ensure efficient throughput and high quality, patient-centered care.
  • Participates in the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services in the unit, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identifies and implements program revisions and appropriate unit metrics based upon patient and staff feedback as well as Performance Improvement metrics.
  • Supports the facility's efforts to improve engagement by operationalizing current nursing strategies, including rounding, incident reporting, and other initiatives.
  • Assists with staff scheduling and manages all practical aspects of staff labor in accordance with patient care needs and productivity guidelines.
  • Supports inventory control and assists with managing supplies and equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including maintaining knowledge of department processes, pursuing self-directed learning, continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC) preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience as an RN within behavioral health preferred.
  • Previous experience working as a team lead, preceptor, or trainer preferred.
