Requirements
  • Active professional liability/malpractice insurance with tail coverage.
  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Completion of a graduate-level three-credit pharmacology course from an accredited institution approved by the Board of Nursing, or a pharmacology course of at least 45 hours integrated into the Master's in Nursing program.
  • A minimum of two years of direct experience treating individuals with substance use disorders, including detoxification services.
  • Certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Advanced Practice Nurse.
  • New Jersey Controlled Dangerous Substance and Drug Enforcement Administration Controlled Dangerous Substance certificates.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices of behavioral healthcare, substance use, and mental illness.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and follow-up skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize competing demands, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make independent decisions and sound judgments.
Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality, person-centered care using evidence-based practices while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team as an independent contractor.
  • Diagnose and treat disorders and diseases of the mind pursuant to an agreement with a collaborating physician.
  • Perform psychiatric evaluations and diagnoses in accordance with accepted Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, and American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria.
  • Treat mental disorders in accordance with accepted principles of psychiatric and nursing practice.
  • Provide daily medical supervision of withdrawal, including monitoring withdrawal symptoms and vital signs.
  • Support the Medical Director in providing required outpatient detoxification services in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Attend and participate in the treatment team planning process when required.
  • Complete progress notes in compliance with SERV policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Recommend and order laboratory and other testing when indicated.
  • Order medications as necessary and educate clients about medication interactions and side effects.
  • Provide education and consultation to multidisciplinary treatment team members.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication with clients, families, providers, advocates, and other professionals involved in client care.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or knowledge of medical Spanish.
