Marriott International runs a global network of hotels and lodging facilities to serve business travelers, vacationers, and long-term guests. It earns money from owning, leasing, managing, and franchising properties, charging guests for room stays and extra services like food and beverages, events, and amenities, plus management and franchise fees from operated or branded hotels. Compared with competitors, Marriott relies on a diversified mix of ownership models and revenue streams across many regions, backed by a large brand and reservation network. Its goal is to provide reliable lodging worldwide while maintaining safety standards and expanding its footprint through owned, leased, managed, and franchised properties.

Marriott has partnered with LG Electronics to overhaul its in-room TV experience across select properties. The luxury hotel chain is replacing traditional cable setups with a cloud-based platform offering over 40 streaming apps, more than 250 free channels, and the ability to adjust room settings directly on screen. The upgrade addresses a growing guest priority. A JD Power study found seamless smart TV capabilities are now a top amenity for 40% of hotel guests, nearly double recent figures. Some 60% of surveyed guests use smart TVs during their stay. The new system launches initially in a 40-hotel pilot programme across the US and Canada, with plans for eventual global rollout across participating Marriott properties.
PASHA, Marriott plan 752 rooms and Residences in Baku and Tbilisi. * by Makenzie Huff * September 4, 2026 Three new properties, more than 700 combined rooms and residences, and one new city for Marriott's Le Méridien brand - here's what's in the latest Caucasus development deal PASHA Real Estate Group and Marriott International have signed a deal to build three new hotel and residential properties in Azerbaijan and Georgia. The agreement covers a new Ritz-Carlton hotel and residences on Zagulba Beach near Baku, an expansion of the existing Ritz-Carlton Residences in Baku, and a Le Méridien hotel in Tbilisi. The signing took place at The Ritz-Carlton, Baku, with PASHA CEO Ozgur Geter and Marriott's Neal Jones, President for Europe, Middle East and Africa, in attendance along with other executives from both companies. The projects add to a partnership that already includes several well-known hotels in Baku, among them The St. Regis, JW Marriott Absheron, and Sheraton Baku Intourist. Marriott currently operates more than 10,000 properties across 148 countries and territories, according to the company. PASHA Real Estate, part of PASHA Holding, works across Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Montenegro, and the United States, with a portfolio that includes hotels, resorts, shopping centers, and residential developments. What's planned for Baku. The Ritz-Carlton Baku, Zagulba will be located on a stretch of coastline north of the city on the Caspian Sea. There will be 80 planned guestrooms and suites, along with an indoor pool, a fitness center, a spa, a beach club, and a Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge. The project also includes a residential component, The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Baku, Zagulba, which will have 282 apartments and villas. Those residences are planned to come with their own set of amenities, including: * A clubhouse * A fitness center * A swimming pool * A kids' club * A cinema * Private beach access Separately, PASHA plans to add a new tower to the existing Ritz-Carlton Residences, Baku, which opened in 2023. The extension is expected to bring 238 more residences, along with a lounge, fitness center, and swimming pool of its own. No timeline for construction or completion was given for either the Zagulba project or the residential tower. Le Méridien heads to Tbilisi. The Tbilisi hotel will carry the Le Méridien brand and is planned for the Chugureti district, one of the city's more active neighborhoods. It is expected to have 152 guestrooms, several dining venues, meeting and event space, and a fitness center. The hotel will also include a Le Méridien Hub, the brand's take on a modern hotel lobby that also functions as a social space. In a statement, Geter said the projects reflect the two companies' relationship and their aim to deliver hospitality and residential experiences in the region. Jones said Eastern Europe and the Caucasus remain a growth area for Marriott, pointing to rising travel demand and interest from hotel owners in globally known brands. PASHA and Marriott have worked together on hotel projects in the region for several years, and this agreement extends that relationship into new markets and property types. Please note: Information regarding project details - including but not limited to opening dates, room counts, and branding - for hotels under development can change as projects progress. The Luxury Collection moves beyond the hotel room. With the launch of Expeditions and its latest resort on the Greek island of Rhodes, the Marriott brand is betting its next chapter on the itinerary rather than the stay. September 3, 2026, 4:38pm On the Aegean Odyssey, the way between islands is a helicopter. Nine days, Mykonos to Paros to Santorini, with a yacht for the water the aircraft does not cover. How a guest moves between hotels is not a logistical footnote on this trip. It is a large part of what The Luxury Collection is now selling. The Marriott International brand, which is often considered the most "boutique," unveils Expeditions this month, a slate of guided journeys that carries the hotel operator past the room and into the itinerary. The Aegean route is one of 12 unique experiences around the world that guests can choose from. The push arrives alongside the brand's newest hotel. Amoh, its first property on the island of Rhodes, is a built-from-ground-up resort on an island that has spent 2,000 years absorbing other people's architecture, from Hellenistic builders and Roman quarrymen to the Knights of St. John. Where The Luxury Collection built its reputation on palaces and grand buildings that were extraordinary long before any flag went up, here it had to be created from scratch. The collection's lineage runs back to an Italian hotel company founded in 1906 that assembled some of Europe's grandest addresses. It came to Marriott in the 2016 Starwood acquisition, and now spans more than 130 properties in over 40 countries, from the Gritti Palace in Venice to Al Maha in the Dubai desert. "The Luxury Collection has never been solely about heritage buildings, but it has always been about extraordinary destinations and the unique stories they have to tell," said Bruce Rohr, vice president and global brand leader for The Luxury Collection. Unlike most Marriott brands including The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and JW Marriott, The Luxury Collection hotels keep their own names and character and become part of the group because they are unlike one another. They are curated rather than built to a template. "The criteria," he explained, is the same across all. "Distinction, authenticity, and destination relevance." Twelve Journeys, Four Formats The Luxury Collection Expeditions extends that claim past the front door. The guided trips are built around the brand's hotels, which supply the anchors and the accommodation. Expeditions run across destinations in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, revealing the cultural heritage, craftsmanship, cuisine, ecosystems, and wellness practices of destinations worldwide. The brand supplies the routing, transport between stops and the expert guides, from archaeologists and chefs to artisans and conservationists. Itineraries are unhurried, group sizes small. Some run an afternoon, others cross three islands in nine days. Rohr rejected the tour operator framing. "Expeditions is not about becoming a tour operator, but more about extending our role as a destination authority beyond the walls of any single hotel," he said. It is also an answer to what holds 130 hotels together when none of them look alike. "We curate distinctive hotels, not prototypes," Rohr said, adding that what unites them "is not a shared design aesthetic or a prescribed service ritual, but rather a promise that every hotel is deeply connected to its destination." The brand-wide threads are programmatic, including Destination Discovery experiences and a daily Epicurean Moment built on local food and drink. The company uses the tagline "The Destination Authority" across its portfolio of Luxury Collection hotels, though Rohr was candid that the expertise sits with hotels that are locally staffed and run. "We don't create the destination expertise, we identify it, celebrate it, and connect guests to it," he said. The Race Past the Room The move tracks a broader shift at the top of the market, where luxury is defined less by what can be added to a stay than by the quality of the access behind it. Belmond sells rail journeys, Aman and Four Seasons run private jet programs, and The Ritz-Carlton operates yachts. The Luxury Collection's version is asset-light, built on hotels and partners it already has. Marriott's luxury group has framed 2026 around experience over acquisition, citing research that 88 percent of high-net-worth travelers define status through knowledge and respect rather than possessions. "Rather than collecting things, they're collecting stories and meaningful memories," Rohr said. Asked where the collection lands in five years, he pointed past the real estate. "In five years, I believe The Luxury Collection will be recognized not just for where its hotels are located, but for the depth of discovery they make possible," he said. Newsletters
