Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • A Massachusetts Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • One to three years of related work experience is required; new graduate registered nurses will be considered.
  • CPR certification is required.
  • Strong interpersonal, patient communication, and patient education skills are required.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access, and other web-based applications are required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and spoken English with medical center staff, patients, families, and external customers is required.
  • Ability to provide patient care to young adults, middle-aged adults, and elderly patients is required.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and facilitate quality clinical management of a broad outpatient population across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborate with providers to identify preventive-care needs, support evidence-based chronic-disease management, and coordinate care.
  • Provide general and specific health-care education and work directly with patients to identify and monitor self-management goals.
  • Collaborate with community-based providers and follow up on emergency-department visits and inpatient discharges.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures as needed.
  • Provide telephonic triage, assessment, education, collaboration, and coordination of health-care and community resources.
  • Provide direct patient care, including Annual Wellness Visits and Chronic Care Management for patients.
  • Manage and teach International Normalized Ratio monitoring for patients taking Coumadin using a standardized protocol.
  • Administer vaccines and medications by parenteral, oral, rectal, or nasal routes according to provider orders and medication-administration policies.
  • Provide patient education regarding administered medications.
  • Perform nursing activities such as wound care and point-of-care testing under provider direction.
  • Document all aspects of patient care accurately and promptly in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Schedule tests and specialty-care referrals at the provider's direction.
  • Monitor and ensure follow-up of abnormal test and imaging results.
  • Oversee inventory and ordering of clinical supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure safe, accurate, and clinically appropriate collection, storage, and processing of biologic specimens.
  • Provide oversight, delegation, and clinical resources to Medical Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and nursing students.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to practice staff and maintain clinical knowledge and skills through consultation, literature review, and formal and informal education.
  • Ensure protected health information is used only for treatment, payment, and health-care operations.
  • Ensure patient-safety practices prevent or eliminate risk of patient harm and promptly report adverse patient events and near misses to Risk Management.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
