Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or General Educational Development credential is required.
  • Two to three years of experience in a support position or inventory control is preferred.
  • Basic business and computer skills are required.
  • Demonstrated planning, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • The role requires frequent lifting of 20 to 75 pounds and frequent standing, walking, carrying, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and grasping.
Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain appropriate levels of core-specific surgical supplies and sterile instruments.
  • Generate requisitions for the acquisition or replenishment of materials and instrumentation.
  • Receive and properly store special materials and instruments before scheduled cases.
  • Assemble surgical case carts, ensure they are fully stocked, and deliver them to the appropriate operating-room suite before the case.
  • Maintain basic competency in the Sterile Processing Department case-cart assembly process for backup or emergent replenishment situations.
  • Return unopened or unused supplies to their proper locations and document the returns in the inventory control system.
  • Support surgical staff by providing supplies, instruments, and equipment before or during procedures.
  • Ensure supplies are patient-safe by checking expiration dates and following hospital policy for recalled items.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and instrumentation for assigned cores or services using a handheld computer to track utilization and perform inventory cycle counts.
  • Initiate restock orders and process supply- and equipment-related requisitions.
  • Coordinate with vendors to ensure specialty-product availability and help resolve problems or research case-specific products.
  • Enter received supplies into the inventory system and place them in assigned bin locations, recording lot, serial, and expiration information where applicable.
  • Serve as a liaison in the value-analysis process and as a resource for clinical staff regarding supplies, instruments, and equipment.
  • Review partially assembled case carts from the Sterile Processing Department and complete assembly with finish-pick items maintained in the surgical cores.
  • Incorporate Lean principles and techniques into daily routines to deliver efficient service.
  • Practice antiseptic techniques to maintain supply and instrument sterility and a clean or sterile environment.
