With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA’s Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions. The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.

Product Development Engineer
With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and efficiently. Enabling the movement towards next-gen chip design, KLA’s Global Products Group (GPG), is looking for the best and the brightest product development engineers. The Surfscan-ADE product division provides best-in-class unpatterned wafer inspection systems for wafer manufacturers, leading-edge IC manufacturing. Logic, foundry, and memory customers depend on products to detect yield-critical defects for process debug and excursion monitoring at sophisticated process nodes. Surfscan flagship products include the SP5, SP7, SP8 series to detect a wide range of defects with ultimate sensitivity at the optical inspection speeds needed for defect monitoring.
The successful candidate will work in Surfscan-ADE division. You will be working in the System Engineering team to design and develop next generation unpatterned inspection tools using groundbreaking technology in high power illumination system. We are seeking a teammate who will:
- Work with domain specialists to define system architecture and develop requirement specifications and test plans for subsystem and components
- Work with Optical, opto-mechanical and software engineering groups to define and review designs. Create and execute test plans and perform analysis to validate system performance. Will trouble shoot system and subsystem issues and work with various subsystem teams to find and implement solutions
- Support internal and external customers in implementing processes to build, use the tool efficiently and improve tool performance. Lead advanced problem solving efforts in manufacturing and in the field
- Occasional domestic and international travel will be required (Up to 20%)
Qualifications
Enjoys developing complex experiments, systems or instruments using knowledge in applied optics, physics, material science or related subject areas
A strong background in optics, optical engineering, physics or material science with analytical and problem-solving skills
Must have a good understanding of Optical, Electromechanical and Software systems and their interactions in the context of sophisticated industrial equipment.
Hands-on experience with Deep UV, high power lasers and illumination systems, CCD/CMOS cameras is a plus
Should be at ease with scientific and statistical analysis tools and SW tools such as Python, Matlab, JMP, and LabView to analyze the data and automate experimental set ups.
Agility and ability to thrive with a fast paced program and respond quickly to field and internal critical issues
An effective communicator who is able to share technical information with functional groups and provide executive level reports to management and customers.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors with 5+ relevant experience or Masters with 3+ years’ relevant experience or recent PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
