Expedition Technology has an opening for a Senior Geospatial Machine Learning Research Engineer to be part of a diverse team of passionate engineers and scientists who thrive developing and delivering impactful technologies. The technologies we develop elevate the capabilities of the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. The Senior Machine Learning Scientist has strong technical skills in mathematical modeling, probability, and optimization theory applied to geospatial data processing, and patterns of life modeling from large scale trajectory data.

You should be comfortable researching academic literature to implement, extend, and deploy novel solutions, and have demonstrated proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, such as Python for building models, running experiments, and generating and analyzing results. Model design requires theoretical understanding of areas such as probabilistic generative models, signal and parameter estimation, optimization theory, and the desire to develop efficient software implementations. We are looking for colleagues with fundamental understanding of these topics who enjoy getting their hands dirty implementing different techniques and developing their own techniques when required. We are particularly interested in someone with experience in deep generative models for spatio-temporal data processing, and geographic information systems.
Our team develops and delivers software tools that meet the highest standards of quality, maintainability, and reuse, following agile software development practices. We are looking for an experienced Senior Scientist with a creative mind, and willingness to succeed in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Researching academic literature to keep abreast of the latest theories, techniques, and tools.
- Working on or leading teams to develop machine learning architectures and models for novel applications
- Implementing solutions in Python (PyTorch / TensorFlow)
- Delivering high-quality software in a team environment
- Delivering technical reports and presentations to customers
- Participate in team brainstorming sessions to shape proposals and innovative programs
Required Skills and Experience:
- United States Citizenship: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (TS) Security Clearance
- MS and 6+ years of experience or BS and 9+ years of experience in a technical field such as Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics
- Proven proficiency in PyTorch, TensorFlow, or other modern machine learning framework
- Solid theoretical understanding of deep neural networks as well as its applications to spatio-temporal data and geographical information systems
- Proven experience architecting, training, testing, and deploying machine learning solutions
- Experience working with large geospatial datasets and geospatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL & PostGIS, MobilityDB)
- Experience using collaborative source code management tools (Git)
- Strong technical presentation and writing skills
- Strong software development skills
