Zoom appoints former Oracle CFO Jeff Epstein to board as Jonathan Chadwick retires

Zoom has appointed Jeff Epstein to its board of directors, effective immediately. Epstein previously served as executive vice president and CFO of Oracle and currently works as an operating partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. The company also announced that Jonathan Chadwick will retire from Zoom's board after nearly ten years of service, effective 19 November 2026. Epstein currently serves on the boards of Autodesk, AvePoint, and Twilio. He previously held board positions at Okta, Couchbase, Poshmark, and Shutterstock. Zoom CEO Eric Yuan said Epstein's financial and strategic leadership, particularly in B2B software and vertical AI, makes him a strong addition to the board. Zoom's $3.13B Anthropic stake boosts AI-first communications platform

Zoom Communications' stake in AI company Anthropic has reached $3.13 billion in value, adding significant weight to its investment portfolio. The company recorded an unrealized gain of $1.61 billion during the second quarter of fiscal year 2026 and added roughly $301 million to its Anthropic position over six months through July. Zoom has also invested $140.2 million in equity securities of other private companies developing AI products. The San Jose-based communications platform provider, with a market capitalisation of nearly $29.4 billion, is positioning itself as an AI-first work platform. The company's enterprise business now grows faster than overall revenue, whilst AI products play an increasingly larger role across its platform. Zoom's shares have climbed 21.8% over the past 52 weeks and gained 14.1% year-to-date.

Zoom falls 6% despite Q2 beat as Q3 profit guidance of $1.47 misses $1.50 estimate

Zoom fell 6% despite beating Q2 expectations, after guiding Q3 profit to $1.47 per share, below the $1.50 Street estimate. The video collaboration company reported Q2 revenue of $1.28 billion, up 4.9% year-on-year, and adjusted earnings per share of $1.55, topping the $1.48 consensus. The drop appears company-specific rather than sector-wide. HubSpot slipped 1% and Monday.com fell 2%, whilst the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF rose 0.1%. Enterprise revenue surged 7.8% to $787.5 million, its strongest growth in three years, accounting for 62% of total revenue. Online revenue grew just 0.6% to $489.7 million. Zoom raised its full-year revenue guidance to $5.085 billion to $5.095 billion.

Zoom's billings slowdown and 99% retention raise questions over AI expansion strategy

Zoom Video Communications faces questions about its AI-led expansion strategy as slowing billings growth and 99% net revenue retention signal weakening customer demand. The company recently launched ZoomMate, a $20 per user per month AI work surface connecting conversations across Zoom and third-party systems. Despite solid quarterly results and outperformance versus the broader market, underlying metrics suggest softening momentum. Zoom's investment narrative centres on whether AI and customer experience products can offset declining legacy video meetings revenue. The company's forecasts project $5.5 billion revenue and $1.4 billion earnings by 2029, requiring 4% yearly revenue growth. Some analysts predict revenue reaching $5.8 billion with earnings near $1.6 billion, though this optimistic view contrasts with current billings trends and intensifying competition in the collaboration software market.
