Requirements
  • Two years of hands-on mechanical repair experience involving diesel or gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, earthmoving equipment, or industrial equipment, or related certification from an accredited technical school, community college, or training program.
  • Provide personal tools including specified ratchet and socket sets, wrench sets, torque tools, impact tools, and additional hand tools.
  • Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift 100 pounds and push or pull with 60 pounds of force.
  • Ability to lift and work overhead, stand and walk continuously for long periods, and squat, kneel, and bend repetitively.
  • Ability to read and comprehend regulations, instructions, and technical information.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and guidance reliably and complete tasks without supervision.
  • Ability to complete required service training and employee development classes.
  • Ability to follow safe working practices, use required personal protective equipment, and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Journeyman Technicians with skilled and technical shop jobs when assigned.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on equipment, attachments, and components, including up to 500-hour interval preventive-maintenance services independently.
  • Remove and install parts using hand and air-operated tools, excluding parts requiring fine tuning for proper system operation.
  • Remove carrier rollers and sprocket segments from previously blocked-up machines.
  • Perform minor painting without professional spray equipment and heating associated with repair work.
  • Conduct preliminary diagnosis of machinery, component, and system problems without using diagnostic equipment.
  • Install and replace minor electrical components and alternators, excluding electric motors.
  • Complete service reports and required paperwork, data entry, and reporting.
  • Locate and use service literature and technical information.
  • Maintain and repair shop equipment and tools.
  • Load and unload components, parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Conduct machine inventories and inventories of storage tanks, shop supplies, and tools.
  • Maintain tanks and settling pits.
  • Transport or deliver components and equipment as directed.
  • Clean, pressure wash, and otherwise prepare equipment, mechanical parts, and components.
  • Maintain wash bays and associated equipment.
  • Perform general shop and facilities cleanup.
  • Conduct repairs according to Caterpillar-published guidelines and recommendations.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management and follow supervisor guidance and directions.
