Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in health information management, privacy, or related field
  • A minimum of ONE of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CHPS, or CHPC
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in privacy and disclosure management within a healthcare organization
  • Experience with EHR systems; Netsmart’s Avatar strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and state privacy laws
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a HIM strategy aligned with WellPower’s mission, regulatory requirements, and digital roadmap
  • Lead and mentor the HIM team, fostering a culture of service, compliance, and continuous improvement
  • Manage departmental budget, staffing, and vendor relationships; monitor performance metrics and service level agreements
  • Serve as WellPower’s designated HIPAA Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with HIPAA/HITECH, 42 CFR Part 2, and Colorado-specific privacy laws
  • Oversee privacy policies, workforce privacy training, breach investigations, and mitigation plans
  • Collaborate with the CIO/designated HIPAA Security Officer and their Information Systems teams on privacy/security risk assessments, audits, and incident response
  • Oversee ROI processes for people in services, payers, attorneys, courts, and law enforcement, ensuring compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2 and state regulations
  • Direct HIM procedures and quality controls for health information access and data integrity, including identity management, disclosure accounting, chart corrections, record completion, amendments, and retention/destruction schedules
  • Supervise daily HIM team operations and performance
  • Co-lead information governance initiatives through participation on the cybersecurity governance and data governance committees, collaborating with leaders from Information Systems, Quality, Compliance and Clinical Operations
  • Serve as business owner for HIM-related EHR capabilities and HIM software
  • Drive process improvements and automation for ROI, consent management, and document imaging
  • Partner with Quality, Compliance, Risk Management, and Information Systems on audits, reporting, interoperability initiatives, and continuous improvement projects
  • Educate staff and leadership on privacy, documentation standards, and HIM best practices
  • Represent HIM in governance forums and external partnerships (e.g., Health Information Exchange participation)
