Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Candidates must be entry-level or early-career professionals.
  • Candidates should be within 2 years of completing their highest degree and reside within the continental United States.
  • F-1 visa students must have approved Curricular Practical Training or Occupational Practical Training before the assignment begins, with authorization related to their degree.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain stakeholder input and negotiate technical requirements to define Design Verification Plan and Report requirements.
  • Deliver optimized component-based analytical and experimental verification plans to program or project teams.
  • Make verification and validation decisions affecting product performance, reliability, and durability.
  • Investigate component concerns, understand causal mechanisms, recommend actions, own problem resolution, and document results.
  • Improve technical requirements, iDFMEA, Engineering Standard Work, Design Verification Plan and Report, test planning, and problem-solving processes.
  • Use Integrity, Microsoft Power BI, and McParts to support technical processes and decision-making.
  • Own problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems, or services.
  • Execute established work processes and systems independently while developing product and technology knowledge.
  • Coordinate and direct work among technicians and temporary student employees as needed.
  • Participate in the one-year Test Engineer Rotational Program across Vehicle, System Performance, Simulation, and Test Cell testing.
  • Complete short rotations in the other program areas as needed, then move into a validation role in the Engine Business Unit for two years.
  • Develop physics-based understanding of customer duty cycles using damage modeling and representative real-world data.
  • Compare analytical and experimental results and resolve differences to maintain calibrated analytical models.
  • Generate experimental testing plans that provide optimal analysis and test coverage.
  • Identify interfaces, functions, requirements, control factors, noise factors, potential failure modes, and potential failure causes to improve product reliability.
  • Analyze interfaces and interactions across system boundaries, specify requirements and limits, and create system integration plans.
  • Solve product problems by determining assignable and systemic root causes, implementing data-based solutions, and preventing recurrence.
  • Develop product systems validation plans, manage product risk and priorities, negotiate requirements against capability, and evaluate analytical, simulation, and physical test results.
  • Assess legacy and proposed system capabilities and produce technical recommendations and documentation.
  • Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable system requirements, establish acceptance criteria, track requirements, assess changes, and maintain artifact linkages.
  • Execute, improve, train, coach, and manage technical processes and tools, standards, and best practices as applicable.
  • Analyze technical data using descriptive statistics, probability distributions, graphical analysis, statistical inference, analysis of variance, regression, and design of experiments.
  • Define system boundaries, context, interfaces, lifecycle, problem scope, and deliverables; analyze system linkages and interactions to predict behavior and devise modifications.
  • Document technical information and communicate knowledge to stakeholders for productivity and knowledge transfer.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute product development activities; monitor resources and quality, mitigate risks, and ensure product capability meets expectations.

Cummins cashes in on AI boom as hyperscalers set to spend $750B on data centres

Cummins is capitalising on the AI boom by supplying backup power generators to data centres. S&P Global estimates that major tech companies including Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, and Oracle will collectively spend approximately $750 billion on capital expenditures in 2026, with much of it driven by AI infrastructure. During the second quarter, Cummins' Power Systems sales jumped 19% year over year, driven by strong global demand for data centre power equipment. The company is benefiting from increasing power requirements, as next-generation AI racks could reach 600 kilowatts or more, compared to traditional racks averaging around 12 kilowatts. Cummins is also expanding beyond backup power, recently announcing an agreement to provide natural gas generators for primary power at a high-performance-computing data centre in West Texas.

Caterpillar and Cummins reported record second-quarter results, driven by surging demand for power generation equipment needed for AI data centres.
