Requirements

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree in engineering, mathematics, or physics with 3 or more years of experience in aerospace loads and dynamics analyses
Experienced with finite element analysis using Nastran; familiarity with common pre/post-processing tools (SimCenter 3D, FEMAP, PATRAN, etc.) as well as bulk deck editing
Strong knowledge of evaluating airframe internal loads and load paths, aircraft external loads development, and the principles and concepts of aeroelasticity
Programming aptitude with Python and its standard libraries

Responsibilities

The candidate will support one or more of the following as an L&D engineer:
External loads definition from flight maneuvers, gust, takeoff and landing for use in structural design and analysis
Generation of vehicle finite element model to assess static and dynamic load cases
Characterization of aeroelastic effects such as flutter
Definition of random vibration environments from buffet and engine dynamics
Evaluation of control system interaction with vehicle structure
Ground vibration testing to validate dynamic models

Hermeus is a startup developing hypersonic aircraft to radically accelerate air travel. At Mach 5, more than twice the speed of the supersonic Concorde, passengers will be able to cross the Atlantic in 90 minutes. On the path to hypersonic passenger aircraft, Hermeus is partnering with government agencies including the US Air Force and NASA to develop a series of autonomous aircraft that derisk the technology and solve urgent national security challenges. These products provide the data and confidence necessary to certify, produce, operate, and maintain safe and comfortable commercial aircraft. Hypersonic aircraft have the potential to create trillions of dollars of new global economic growth per year, unlocking significant resources that can be utilized to solve the world’s greatest problems.

Hermeus is seeking a Loads and Dynamics Engineer to support the development of our hypersonic aircraft programs (Quarterhorse and Darkhorse). This individual will work closely with the aerodynamics and structures teams to develop and refine external loads, create dynamic simulations, validate analysis through testing and flight, and evaluate flutter behaviors to support aircraft development. This person will go beyond delivering analyses and fulfill an integral role in the design and layout of the vehicle’s airframe and components.

About You:
