Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for branch staff regarding procedural questions related to deposit accounts, including teller transactions and new account opening.
  • Provide timely and accurate guidance on policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support branch teams in resolving complex customer scenarios and operational challenges.
  • Review and provide approvals for legal documentation, account exceptions, and policy deviations within established authority limits.
  • Ensure all decisions align with internal policies, compliance standards, and risk-management practices.
  • Act as a liaison between branch staff and internal partners to ensure timely and accurate issue resolution.
  • Coordinate across departments to clarify policies, system functionality, and regulatory requirements impacting branch operations.
  • Escalate higher-risk or complex issues as needed.
  • Promote consistent execution of processes across all retail branches.
  • Monitor recurring issues and identify trends impacting branch performance or compliance.
  • Partner with leadership to recommend process improvements and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform complex account maintenance, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Review and complete service-request tickets submitted by branches within defined service-level expectations.
  • Research and resolve account-related issues, ensuring proper documentation and follow-through.
  • Identify knowledge gaps and recommend training topics based on branch inquiries and trends.
  • Assist in developing and delivering training materials and sessions for branch staff.
  • Support onboarding and ongoing education to reinforce best practices.
  • Complete required training by assigned due dates.
  • Serve as the primary support for Retail Banking within the Retail Branch Support team and provide advisory and escalation support for complex transactions.
  • Perform operational tasks ranging from minor to complex processes or functions, taking accountability from receipt of work through resolution and closure.
  • Perform risk analysis and provide Retail staff with transaction approvals and exceptions within approved authorities.
  • Provide operational and risk oversight to Retail Banking functions in collaboration with Retail Banking Administration.
  • Coordinate information among operational areas and customers, including remote customer interactions in support of Retail Banking.
  • Assist in the day-to-day coordination of departmental functions, workflow management, and ongoing process-improvement and efficiency initiatives.
  • Use multiple system applications as an experienced subject-matter resource for Retail operational tasks and procedures.
  • Assist in multiple areas across departments as an overall subject-matter expert on Retail operational tasks and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five or more years of experience in retail operations at a financial institution is preferred.
  • Branch management experience is a plus.

Mechanics Bank targets 17% ROATCE by 2027 after $310M securities restructuring

Mechanics Bank completed its HomeStreet integration in Q2 2026 and sold its DUS business line to Fifth Third, generating substantial excess capital and reducing intangibles. The bank is allowing high-cost certificates of deposit to run off whilst focusing on core deposit growth and capital efficiency. Headcount fell from 1,890 to 1,756 full-time equivalents quarter-over-quarter. Management expects annual noninterest expenses to reach approximately $430 million by Q4 2026 as merger synergies fully realise. The bank plans to restructure $310 million in low-yielding available-for-sale securities into current market-rate mortgage-backed securities in Q3, anticipating a $25 million after-tax loss with a four to five-year earn-back period. Management targets 17% to 18% return on average tangible common equity and 1.3% to 1.4% return on average assets for 2027 and beyond, projecting a $250 million total dividend payout next year. The bank's credit portfolio comprises 71% low-risk multifamily lending.

Mechanics Bancorp reports $57.7M Q2 net income, completes HomeStreet merger

Mechanics Bancorp reported second quarter 2026 net income of $57.7 million, or $0.25 per diluted share, up from $44.1 million, or $0.19 per diluted share, in the first quarter. The Walnut Creek, California-based financial holding company had total assets of $21.2 billion at quarter-end. The company substantially completed its merger with HomeStreet during the quarter and sold its Fannie Mae DUS business line. Mechanics paid $162 million in cash dividends. Non-recurring acquisition and integration costs totalled $5.9 million. Total deposits stood at $18.1 billion, with a loans-to-deposits ratio of 75%. The company maintained strong capital ratios, including an estimated 16.70% total risk-based capital ratio and 14.39% CET1 capital ratio.

Mechanics Bank has established Mechanics Bank Trust Company of Delaware, a wholly owned subsidiary offering complex trust planning and administration under Delaware law. The non-depository office expands the bank's wealth management capabilities for high-net-worth clients seeking tax advantages, privacy, and asset preservation. (GIA) is proud to announce a new partnership with Mechanics Bank and Catholic Charities Diocese of Toledo to expand GIA's revolving auto loan program to residents of Richland and Ashland counties. This expansion builds upon the program's initial success in Summit and Medina counties, increasing access to safe, reliable transportation for individuals facing barriers to employment. GIA serves Summit, Portage, Medina, Ashland and Richland counties. Transportation consistently emerges as a primary obstacle for individuals pursuing job opportunities, particularly for those who may struggle to qualify for traditional vehicle loans or who are vulnerable to predatory lending practices.
