Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • An active approved Medical Assistant certification, such as Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, where applicable.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers.
  • Florida HIV/AIDS training or continuing education certification for healthcare professionals.
  • Two years of experience.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Strong, effective communication skills with patients, families, and the clinical team.
  • Ability to adapt and handle new, different, or changing environments.
  • Strong time management skills to prioritize and act proactively.
  • Ability to uphold professional ethics and maintain patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
  • Assist medical providers with patient healthcare management and clinical procedures under the supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.
  • Provide hands-on patient care while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Prepare treatment and examination rooms with appropriate supplies, instruments, and materials for physical examinations.
  • Prepare patients for physician care by providing basic instructions and information regarding examination procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document findings in the patient medical record.
  • Observe and report changes in patients' signs or symptoms.
  • Administer medications safely as directed by the physician, except in hospital-based units where Medical Assistants do not administer medications.
  • Assist with patient care activities such as walking, and escort and transport patients to various hospital locations.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile-technique principles.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Provide patients with provider care instructions and information.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies, and assist with clerical duties.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Meet the diverse communication needs of patients with Limited English Proficiency.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs and meetings and contribute to team building.
  • Use available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating information about clinical situations, diagnoses, and treatments.
