Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse as noted below
  • Physician Assistant or APRN License Type/Certification: AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner): Adult patients (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting
  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a PA, FNP or ANP
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day
  • All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date
Responsibilities
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations 10%
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline 10%
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician 5%
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided 10%
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice 5%
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research 5%
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization 5%
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education 5%
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members 5%
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law 5%
  • Coordinate with multiple surgical divisions to identify patients with diabetes who need surgery. 5%
  • Perform an assessment of pre-operative patients and provide an individualized pre-habilitation framework so patients can train for surgery with the goal to maximize patient health before a surgical procedure and teach patients life-long skills to help them better manage their health after surgery. 10%
  • Coordinate care with surgical teams, endocrinology support, and anesthesia pre-operative teams. 5%
  • Work closely with a data abstractor to assist with obtaining and documenting important information to track patient outcomes.5%
  • Work closely with South Carolina Surgical Quality Collaborative and Diabetes Free South Carolina leadership as the MUSC point of contact for the prehabilitation program. 10%
Desired Qualifications
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist in Advanced Diabetes Management
  • Experience managing patients with diabetes and/or advanced diabetes management training
  • CDCES qualification
