Requirements
  • Hold a current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license from any state in the United States.
  • Hold a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Hold a current Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support certificate accredited by the American Heart Association.
  • Have at least three years of current operating-room experience, excluding agency assignments, including work in an operating-room setting within the last six months.
  • Be a graduate of a professional nursing school approved by the appropriate state accrediting agency and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in scrub and circulating duties for various types of surgeries, including minor, rectal, abdominal, genitourinary, eye, orthopedic, ear-nose-throat, bronchoscopy, vascular, neurosurgery, and chest surgery.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical skills in operating-room and post-anesthesia-care-unit settings.
  • Demonstrate documentation and communication abilities.
  • Provide psychological support and handle emergency situations effectively.
  • Complete and successfully pass any required government background check.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia care providers, and the surgical team.
  • Prevent infection through universal precautions, aseptic techniques, and isolation techniques.
  • Scrub and circulate during surgical procedures.
  • Operate and manage the mechanics of the operating-room table and lights.
  • Assist anesthesiologists as needed.
  • Position patients properly for surgical procedures.
  • Conduct sponge counts and complete surgical worksheets.
  • Provide post-anesthesia care to patients recovering from surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and recovery progress.
  • Administer medications and provide emergency care as needed.
  • Use and maintain operating-room mechanical equipment, including electrosurgical units, fracture tables, suction devices, and nerve stimulators.
  • Check emergency supplies and equipment according to unit routine.
  • Maintain good body mechanics and use safety protective devices to prevent injury.
  • Complete accurate documentation of surgical procedures and patient care.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and the surgical team.
Desired Qualifications
  • Hold a current Certified Nurse Operating Room certificate accredited by the Competency & Credentialing Institute.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
