Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and eight years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience, is required.
  • Proven coaching, mediation, investigation, and conflict resolution skills are required.
  • Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate multifaceted information and reach clear, evidence-based decisions are required.
  • The ability to prioritize, solve problems, work well under time pressure, work independently, and exercise sound judgment and discretion is required.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact and work positively and effectively with a broad spectrum of constituents, including senior leaders, are required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight and independently investigate complex, confidential matters related to faculty professionalism, conduct, and organizational climate across the Yale School of Medicine.
  • Triage, assess, and direct matters to appropriate review and resolution pathways while coordinating collaboration among institutional stakeholders.
  • Lead comprehensive culture and climate assessments, inquiries, and high-stakes investigations; synthesize findings into written reports and deliver executive-level presentations to faculty and academic leadership.
  • Design and execute targeted, proportionate, and impactful interventions with Yale School of Medicine faculty leaders to drive organizational change.
  • Partner with appropriate Yale School of Medicine and University offices, Yale Medicine, and Yale New Haven Health on professionalism, conduct, and organizational climate matters.
  • Independently assess jurisdictional boundaries and appropriate review and intervention pathways for matters raised with the Office of Academic and Professional Development.
  • Assess individual professionalism or behavior concerns and departmental or section-level professionalism and climate concerns throughout the Yale School of Medicine.
  • Write reports documenting methodology, findings, and recommendations for senior leaders in the Yale School of Medicine and the University.
  • Develop and implement customized interventions with Yale School of Medicine faculty leaders.
  • Oversee appropriate customized resolutions, including remediation interventions, corrective actions, and other supports.
  • Assist in formulating and operationalizing best practices for case handling and case management.
  • Develop programs and initiatives that further the Office of Academic and Professional Development's mission, including the Professionalism Recognition Program, and lead related planning, collaboration, and implementation efforts.
  • Engage in designing and operationalizing initiatives and institutional approaches to promote and develop Yale School of Medicine faculty professionalism and leadership competencies and capabilities, including program conception, design, and delivery.
  • Engage directly and independently with Yale School of Medicine faculty to provide individualized leadership development support and promote leadership competency development.
  • Represent the Office of Academic and Professional Development in presentations to Yale and University communities and higher education and academic medicine organizations.
  • Serve as liaison and representative to university and external committees and professional associations.
  • Advocate for the Office of Academic and Professional Development's work, interests, and priorities through service on Yale School of Medicine and University committees.
  • Direct, monitor, and assess needs and direct the application of resources of an administrative University office dealing with major functional areas.
  • Direct and implement solutions to routine-to-complex problems affecting multiple functional areas.
  • Plan or participate in long-term University activities to comply with University goals and objectives.
  • Establish and implement consistent university-wide policies in multiple functional areas.
  • Ensure University office policies and procedures comply with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
  • Develop and monitor goals and objectives for managerial and professional staff in compliance with University strategies.
  • Direct a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Experience conducting fact-finding, investigations, or climate reviews is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education, academic medicine, or healthcare is preferred.
  • Experience interacting with and influencing faculty is preferred.
  • Experience facilitating or training leadership development is preferred.
