Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED with skill in reading, writing, and business mathematics.
  • Ability to use computer inventory applications.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history with no driving under the influence convictions in the last five years.
  • A minimum of three years of warehouse experience.
  • Familiarity with inventory applications and computerized inventory control and material management procedures.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculations, measurements, and estimations.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, specifications, job prints, and related manuals.
  • Must obtain mobile crane operations qualifications certification.
  • Skill and ability to operate rough-terrain and electric lift trucks, overhead cranes, and gantries.
  • Ability to speak English clearly and interact with city/BLW staff and the public in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent physical condition and ability to lift heavy loads of 75 to 100 pounds, with frequent lifting of 25 to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and carrying.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ladders and vehicles.
  • Ability to place and retrieve materials and supplies at heights of 5 to 14 feet, with or without automated devices.
  • Successful candidates must submit to a drug screen, physical exam, and background inquiry.
Responsibilities
  • Receive and enter incoming supplies and materials into the computer-based inventory application, verifying purchase orders, quantities, manufacturers, vendors, and receipt dates.
  • Document and report changes from original orders, record incomplete purchase order quantities, assign warehouse locations, and generate confirmation reports.
  • Transmit receiving information to the city/BLW mainframe computer through the specialized computer program and verify the information.
  • Record and document identification tags and labels.
  • Send receiving information and supporting documentation, including purchase orders, packing lists, receiving reports, and records, to management for vendor payment.
  • Document defective materials and feedback from line crews, and reject deliveries of incorrect materials.
  • Notify requesting departments about non-stock items and arrange their delivery while maintaining complete paperwork.
  • Prepare and locate materials for pickup and move them to the staging area as needed.
  • Review and verify job order paperwork, report deletions, additions, changes, or omissions to the Foreperson, and remove issued material from inventory systems.
  • Monitor the accuracy of information for all processed items.
  • Update and maintain vendor files, ensuring purchase orders are reconciled and placed in the correct vendor files.
  • Check label makers, printers, tags, labels, scanners, batteries, radios, digital counting and sampling scales, and electronic cable and wire meters for malfunctions.
  • Compute square footage, cubic areas, circle areas, radii, and diameters to calculate storage areas, pallet and racking capacities, maintenance quantities, aisle widths, and storage capacities.
  • Provide electrical engineering and other departments with inventory quantities, special-order status and delivery times, and material locations and availability.
  • Respond to warehouse material requests during power outages, water main breaks, and other events while participating in the mandatory on-call rotation and responding to callouts.
  • Assist the Warehouse Manager, Foreperson, and other personnel during the annual inventory audit.
  • Perform daily equipment checks and report warehouse equipment malfunctions to the Foreperson.
  • Assist in checking warehouse security cameras, door security systems, fencing integrity, and fire alarm systems, and replace security system batteries as needed.
  • Cover some Foreperson functions during absences or unscheduled events such as power outages and water main breaks.
  • Perform other related functions as needed.

Home Posted on August 04, 2026 August 8, 2026 Communications Manager 770-794-5509 MARIETTA, GA - The City of Marietta's Department of Public Works received two distinguished awards given at the Georgia Chapter of American Public Works Association (APWA) Annual Awards Banquet on July 9th. These recognitions include Public Works Manager of the Year and Project of the Year awards for the State of Georgia. The Georgia Chapter APWA's Awards Program honors outstanding public works employees, individuals, groups, and projects, representing the best achievements in the public works profession in Georgia. "These awards reflect the exceptional quality of our Public Works staff and the high level of service they provide," said Mark Rice, the City's Director of Public Works. "This recognition speaks to the professionalism found throughout our department. Our employees take great pride in their work and remain committed to finding effective solutions that benefit the community." The awards received are as follows: * The 2026 Public Works Manager of the Year (Administrative) was awarded to Scott Stokes, Deputy Director of Operations, in recognition of his more than 49 years of local government experience, strong leadership and continued commitment to public service. Since joining the City of Marietta in 2018, he has overseen employees across the Fleet, Sanitation, Streets and Traffic divisions and helped lead major initiatives, including the Fleet building expansion, Sanitation roll cart conversion, improved collection routing, numerous construction and maintenance projects, and the department's achievement of APWA accreditation. He is also recognized for maintaining a high standard of customer service, supporting emergency operations, mentoring public works professionals, and consistently prioritizing the safety of employees. * The 2026 Structures Project of the Year (<$1 Million) was awarded to the City for the Lake Dodd Pipe Crossing Project for the department's innovative rehabilitation of a failing double-barreled stormwater system beneath a heavily traveled roadway. Faced with major utility conflicts that prevented a traditional pipe replacement, Public Works developed an alternative approach that allowed the road to remain open with only minimal lane closures. The project included replacing the most damaged pipe sections, manually clearing approximately 300 feet of debris, stabilizing underground voids, installing cured-in-place pipe lining, constructing a new outlet headwall and improving erosion control and pedestrian accessibility. Managed and inspected by City staff, the $556,837 project was completed in approximately two and a half months, ahead of the 120-day schedule, while maintaining public access and minimizing impacts to nearby businesses, emergency services and motorists.
