Requirements
  • Approximately 7 to 10 years of experience in public accounting and a minimum of 2 years in a manager position, with significant experience in the public sector, including auditing state and local governments such as cities, counties, special districts, and charter schools.
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • A current and valid Certified Public Accountant license.
  • Ability to travel to assigned client locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring in new business to a Certified Public Accountant firm.
  • Thorough knowledge of United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Governmental Accounting Standards Board standards.
  • Significant experience conducting audits in accordance with Generally Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards (Yellow Book), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards, and the Uniform Guidance.
  • Appropriate compliance with all firm-wide policies and procedures.
  • Ability to direct, review, and train departmental staff.
  • Exposure to conducting audits of not-for-profit organizations.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain contact with clients throughout the year, develop thorough knowledge of client operations and control systems, and build and maintain client relationships.
  • Apprise the engagement Director or Partner of important developments on client accounts, identify potential engagement issues, and recommend or implement solutions after partner consultation.
  • Oversee all phases of engagements reporting to an engagement Partner and ensure client deliverables comply with the applicable accounting framework and firm policy.
  • Ensure engagements are properly scheduled.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the governmental sector.
  • Demonstrate expertise in technical skills, work quality, professional standards, firm standards, and client advisory skills.
  • Create, track, and adhere to budgets for assigned Assurance and Advisory engagements; investigate and explain budget overruns and identify scope expansion opportunities.
  • Ensure billing and collection practices are executed by engagement teams in accordance with firm policy.
  • Supervise engagement staff, provide on-the-job training, and review work papers and reports prepared by the engagement team.
  • Participate in staff performance evaluations, reviews, and periodic counseling.
  • Recruit staff and interview Assurance and Advisory candidates when needed.
  • Represent the firm in business development matters, develop business contacts and referrals, and generate business for the firm.
  • Lead prospective client opportunities, conduct initial communications, generate fee estimates, and attend prospective client meetings.
