  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must have a valid driver's license for assigned vehicles, an acceptable Department of Motor Vehicles record, and must pass a driving test.
  • Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to read maps and plan and prioritize daily route coverage.
  • Must be able to use an iPad with GPS, texting, and the truck inspection report.
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A medical card is required depending on city and state requirements.
  • Passing a Department of Transportation physical is required, and failure to do so could result in immediate termination of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the security and safe operation of the vehicle and other assigned equipment, promptly report all accidents involving the truck, personal injury, or property damage to the immediate supervisor, and complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Perform a daily walk-around inspection of the vehicle, checking air, water, oil, and other items to maintain equipment in good operating condition, and report problems immediately to the supervisor.
  • Ensure the truck cab and box are clean and personal items are removed daily.
  • Plan daily routing based on assigned pickups and make all scheduled calls, including donation boxes.
  • Develop the assigned route, including bagging or carding on both sides and across the street of each pickup, as instructed.
  • Ensure that all customers are treated courteously, donations are accepted or refused appropriately, and the Manual for Production Assistants is strictly followed; report pickup problems immediately to the dispatcher.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in compliance with the company dress code.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records, including delivery manifests, trip logs, and Green Sheets, and strictly follow communication procedures and 10 codes.
  • Load and unload the assigned truck and other trucks as requested, taking proper care to secure and safely handle goods and materials during loading and unloading.
  • Use blankets, ropes, and other materials to avoid excessive movement during transit, prevent breakage, scratching, or other damage, and optimize available space.
  • Assist Thrift Store personnel with deliveries by ensuring proper placement and location of items within the store, including moving hampers to the processing area, placing furniture properly on the sales floor, and removing trash.
  • Instruct and supervise the Truck Helper, recognizing that the Truck Helper is in a rehabilitation program and that good habits are taught through example and instruction.
  • Support The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers' work therapy program by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct, work habits, and supervision as directed by the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or Administrator.
