Awful Announcing

Cox finally adds SportsNet LA thanks to Spectrum merger.

Cox finally adds SportsNet LA thanks to Spectrum merger. The channel will only be available on Cox's higher-tier "Contour TV Preferred" and "Contour TV Ultimate" plans. The Dodgers on Spectrum SportsNet LA have long been one of the hardest regional sports networks to watch in the United States. After 13 years, it will finally be easier for Cox customers, thanks to corporate consolidation. SportsNet LA was launched in February 2014 as part of the Dodgers' 25-year deal with Time Warner Cable worth $8.35 billion. At launch, the network was only available in about 30% of the homes in the LA market. Video Muted Things have improved, but very slowly. Charter Communications, which would later merge with Time Warner Cable and start doing business as Spectrum, added SportsNet LA in June 2015. DirecTV finally came on board in April 2020. In 2025, SportsNet LA launched a direct-to-consumer streaming service through MLB.com. FuboTV was the latest provider to add SportsNet LA, in March 2026. However, the network still lacked carriage on Cox, Dish, Hulu and YouTube TV. Now, Cox is finally on board. Cox customers will gain access to SportsNet LA on Friday, August 21. However, the carriage is not the result of a new carriage agreement, but rather corporate consolidation. The day before carriage begins, Spectrum completed a $34.5 billion merger with Cox. Cox subscribers in Las Vegas, Orange County, Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara will have access to the channel. But Dodgers fans will need to make sure they are subscribed to the right Cox tier. Spectrum SportsNet LA will only be available on Cox's higher-tier "Contour TV Preferred" and "Contour TV Ultimate" plans. According to the Cox website, the base prices of these plans are $140 and $184 per month, respectively. As cord cutting continues, cable carriage will continue to become less important. However, because of lucrative cable distribution fees, many sports teams remain tied to the cable bundle. As long as that is the case, this is a good move for Dodgers broadcast accessibility, even if it will cost you.

Charter shares hit record low despite Q2 beat as broadband losses persist, CEO banks on Cox deal for growth

Charter Communications reported second-quarter earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, with adjusted earnings per share of $10.66 topping the $10.06 consensus. Revenue came in at $13.53 billion, though this marked a 1.7% year-over-year decline. The cable provider lost 172,000 internet customers during the quarter, compared with losses of 116,000 in the same period last year. However, Spectrum Mobile added more than 400,000 new wireless lines. CHTR stock fell to a record low of around $111 in morning trading Friday before paring some losses. CEO Chris Winfrey pointed to the pending acquisition of Cox Communications as the company's next major growth catalyst, saying the combined company would have "additional scale to develop new products". The company reaffirmed its 2026 capital spending guidance as it continues upgrading its network.

PMP 201: breaking PMP myths.

PMP 201: breaking PMP myths. PMPs are the ad world's topic du jour, and it's easy to understand why. Buyers get curated inventory, sellers get a better price, and everyone wins. That makes it an easy magnet for attention on all sides. That said, they come with their share of myths and misunderstandings. In today's blog, Infillion Inc. is busting the common misconceptions that may keep people from fully benefiting from PMPs. Issues like measurement, scale, and performance can keep wary advertisers from including this critical tool in their mix, but these problems are neither as prevalent nor as significant as their reputation might suggest. Myth #1: You can't measure foot traffic or brand lift with a PMP Fact: Infillion Inc. can't speak for other companies, but at Infillion, PMP measurement is not only possible - it's an added-value part of your buy. Its ability to measure foot traffic, brand lift, and other performance metrics is a key part of its full-funnel campaign offerings. Measurement isn't only possible - it's typical. Myth #2: PMPs can't address reach the way the open exchange can. Fact: This is a classic quality-versus-quantity problem. It's accurate to say that the open exchange offers "more" placements, but it's important to remember that not all placements are created equal. The open exchange may help with frequency goals, but what is the value of that frequency compared to fewer, better placements? Put another way: would you rather find a handful of nickels or one $20 bill? Myth #3: PMPs are limited to a small pool of publishers. Fact: This may have been true in the past, but the PMP market has come a long way in the last 10 years. Modern PMPs have multi-publisher content and channel architecture that allows for custom mix-and-matching. That means one PMP can offer many solutions in one clean package. IndexExchange, for example, has around 6,000 publisher integrations, including integrations with DirecTV and Cox. Myth #4: Performance Issues are the buyer's problem. Once the seller completes the sale, the customer service portion ends. Fact: Infillion Inc. treat PMPs as a managed service. A key element of its partnership is tracking performance and making recommendations on how to get the most out of your ad dollars. The fact is, a lot of the old worries about PMPs are just that: old. In 2026 and beyond, if you're looking for robust, high-quality attention that scales and integrates with other products for full-funnel success, PMPs are your answer. * Private Marketplaces (PMPs) * Products * Technology Brian Cullen
