Requirements
  • A J.D. is required.
  • At least 8 years of post-J.D. experience as a practicing attorney, including at least 2 years as first chair or lead counsel responsible for planning, strategy, and execution of complex litigation matters.
  • Membership in good standing of the District of Columbia Bar or eligibility for admission to the District of Columbia Bar is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to litigate cases individually or in teams and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and respect confidentiality.
  • Experience with class or collective actions, especially plaintiff-side litigation, including electronic discovery in complex cases.

Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel and represent clients in civil litigation and other legal proceedings with significant potential impact on senior poverty.
  • Lead the investigation of potential cases and prepare cases for filing and trial.
  • Lead and supervise litigation matters, including case planning, strategy, and execution.
  • Oversee and investigate potential cases to determine whether to recommend filing a lawsuit or amicus brief.
  • Perform legal analyses and draft pleadings, briefs, and other court filings.
  • Conduct written and oral discovery, including taking and defending depositions.
  • Research and write amicus briefs.
  • Lead mediation and settlement negotiations on behalf of clients.
  • Argue procedural and dispositive motions.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic plans supporting the organization’s litigation goals and adapt those plans to evolving legal, economic, and technological conditions.
