Job Title: Sr. Data Engineer - AI
Location: Santa Barbara, CA or Remote within U.S.A.
Job Summary:
MixMode is at the vanguard of a new class of patented Artificial Intelligence based Cyber Security technology. As a Senior Data Engineer on the AI Team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining big-data streaming applications that transform raw network data into AI-ready data. As part of this role you will work closely with AI and Machine Learning engineers to understand the data needs of our patented AI algorithm, and will work with ML-Ops engineers to ensure that our data processing and storage is done efficiently and reliably at large scale.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and implement streaming ETL applications that can process petabyte-scale data
- Work closely with AI Engineers and Product to identify data transformation and storage requirements
- Collaborate with upstream and downstream data teams to define clean interfaces and data contracts between applications
- Build monitoring and telemetry tooling to measure data pipeline performance
- Participate in AI and ML conversations, bringing data and scalability considerations to the forefront
Qualifications:

- 5+ years of professional experience with a JVM language: Java (preferred), Scala, or Kotlin
- Experience with big data tools (preferred)
- 3+ years of experience building scalable applications with Kubernetes
- 2+ years of professional experience using big data streaming tools like Flink (preferred), Spark Streaming, Kafka or similar
- 5+ years of professional experience with relational database tools like Postgres, MSSQL, etc.
- 3+ years of professional experience with Python
- Experience collaborating with AI or Machine Learning Engineers
Pursuant to California law, we must display the pay range for this job. Since we are willing to hire within a broad spectrum of qualifications, we also reflect a broad pay range. The base salary range that we are targeting for this position is $160,000 - $190,000 per year, though we can adjust based on individual qualifications. Individual salary is determined by qualifications, role, level, and location.
