PURPOSE
The University Police Department is seeking motivated and community-oriented individuals for the position of Police Cadet. This is a transitional position designed to prepare candidates for a career as a sworn police officer with the department. Candidates must either be currently enrolled in a Texas certified police academy or be able to attend and successfully complete the academy upon hire.
Prior to completion of the academy and receiving peace officer certification, Police Cadets will primarily perform campus security and support functions under the supervision of sworn personnel.
DESCRIPTION
Pre-Academy (performs campus security duties)
50% - Perform duties as a security officer on campus property by providing a security presence
20% - Respond to non-emergency calls of assistance
20% - Assist with traffic and pedestrian control
10% - Perform other duties as assigned
During Academy
95% - Attend academy performing and completing coursework required to pass state exam to obtain peace officer license.
5% - Other duties as assigned by department
Upon Completion of Academy
100% - Other duties as assigned by department
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED.
Two (2) years of full-time employment or military service.
Additional education may be considered as a substitute for the minimum requirements: Associate's degree.
Must be 21 years of age or turn 21 before completing police academy
Maintain a valid Driver License.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively.

SALARY: $19.95/hourly ($41,500/annually, approximately)
