Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of the FMCNA Biomedical Technician Technical Certification Program is required within the first 24 months of employment.
  • A nephrology or biomedical industry technical certification is preferred within 24 months of employment, such as BONENT Certified Hemodialysis Technician or NNCO Certified Biomedical Nephrology Technician.
  • A biomedical industry technical certification is preferred, such as Water Quality Association Water Treatment Specialist or Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician.
  • All required certifications must be maintained and current.
  • A minimum of four years of supervisory experience is required.
  • A minimum of four years of experience working in an industrial or medical technical setting is required, or three years of such experience with an Associate degree in electronics or biomedical technology, or two years of such experience with a bachelor's degree in a technology or business field.
  • Attendance at all technical training programs required by state or federal regulations and company policy is required.
  • A valid driver's license issued in the employee's state of residence is required.
  • The employee must be able to use common hand tools and small power equipment.
  • The employee must be able to train subordinate personnel.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and mainframe applications, are required.
  • The employee must be able to comprehend and communicate in English.
  • The employee must meet the requirements of the Ishihara Color Blindness test as a condition of employment.
  • The employee must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overnight travel may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage Technical Services for a defined area typically consisting of 10 to 25 clinics and 7 to 15 exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Supervise the operation, condition, maintenance, and repair of water treatment, physical plant, medical equipment, and mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ensure technical department activities comply with company procedures and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee OSHA and regulatory compliance issues and ensure appropriate resolutions.
  • Meet operational, financial, and regulatory Technical Service requirements with Area Managers and Directors of Operations.
  • Manage area financial metrics, including TAP, maintenance parts costs, travel, and expenses.
  • Maintain data integrity for area management systems, including PeopleSoft, Kronos, and the Service Database.
  • Pilot and implement new systems and processes.
  • Oversee repair and maintenance activities for water treatment equipment, dialysis equipment, ancillary equipment, test equipment, and the physical plant.
  • Document repair and maintenance activity according to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Purchase and maintain service-parts inventory.
  • Ensure defective parts with associated return goods authorizations and warranty parts are returned promptly.
  • Support and participate in the Quality Assessment and Process Improvement process.
  • Ensure regulatory and OSHA requirements are met in cooperation with facility staff.
  • Collect and process water and dialysate samples.
  • Review, evaluate, and report water and dialysate quality results.
  • Transport equipment as needed.
  • Establish operating and financial goals with the Director of Technical Services.
  • Monitor performance metrics and implement processes to improve them.
  • Collaborate on selecting water treatment equipment for new facilities, relocations, and renovations.
  • Coordinate technical and physical plant activities for new facilities, relocations, and renovations.
  • Integrate Technical Services into acquired facilities.
  • Perform technical assessments for assigned clinics.
  • Initiate, monitor, and manage external vendor service and maintenance agreements and contracts.
  • Ensure applicable manufacturer instructions for use are available to personnel.
  • Maintain accessible emergency contact information for facility personnel.
  • Coordinate and provide Technical Services support during natural disasters and emergency situations.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians.
  • Train and mentor Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians and ensure their training and education.
  • Maintain personnel and training records according to policy and procedure.
  • Provide ongoing and formal annual performance evaluations to Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians I and II.
  • Oversee corrective actions and Personnel Improvement Plans according to applicable human resources policies and procedures.
  • Maintain technical sections of the Clinical Services Integrated Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Implement approved technical policy and procedure changes.
  • Retain technical records and logs according to the company retention policy.
  • Participate in facility audits and prepare and implement correction plans for technical deficiencies.
  • Schedule and oversee Technical Supervisors and Biomedical Technicians to ensure appropriate area coverage.
  • Maintain and update water system diagrams and valve charts.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and implementation of product initiatives and improvements.
  • Provide or assist with Direct Patient Care Technical Training.
  • Address adverse events and product complaints with Operations personnel.
  • Perform the monthly SAP supply inventory process and create SAP equipment requisitions.
  • Assist with technical aspects of new facilities, relocations, and renovations.
  • Ensure dialysis machines, water systems, and mixing equipment are installed, operational, and validated according to manufacturer documentation and company procedures.
  • Maintain the asset register for 8000-series equipment based on equipment movement and Finance Department criteria.
  • Assist with reviewing and recommending capital equipment purchases.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with affiliated physicians and communicate pertinent information.
  • Provide outstanding service to internal and external customers and resolve customer issues promptly.
Desired Qualifications
