Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent with the ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions and a basic knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Ability to read and write at level three as documented on Invest, the hospital's Employee Learning Laboratory software.
  • Ability to develop technical skills and become familiar with policies and procedures, with general analytical skills to resolve minor conflicts and problems.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to interface with section staff, patients, physicians, and nurses in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting with exposure to biohazards, infectious patients and specimens, needle-puncture risks, and occasional portable x-ray machines.
  • Ability to rotate among several off-site locations and comply with infection-control precautions for patients and materials requiring isolation.
  • Consistent use of sharps safety devices as designed to prevent injuries.
Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens from adult and pediatric patients using venipuncture and capillary techniques according to standard or prescribed methods and procedures.
  • Perform electrocardiograms as assigned, following standard operating procedures.
  • Interface with Laboratory sections to expedite specimen procurement and ensure proper labeling and transport of specimens.
  • Perform associated clerical duties, including data entry on hospital and Laboratory computers.
  • Maintain blood-drawing areas in a clean and safe condition according to hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Rotate weekends and holidays as needed or assigned.
  • Rotate in off-site drawing stations, including home draws, as needed or assigned.
  • Register outpatients in the Meditech computer with correct insurance, demographic, and physician office data.
  • Request correct tests ordered by physicians and outreach offices and appropriately label specimens, matching computer labels to handwritten labels.
  • Deliver specimens to the appropriate Laboratory areas, emphasizing timely delivery of stat specimens and tests requiring specialized attention.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
