  • Three years of hands-on building-related maintenance and repair experience in pipefitting, HVACR, steam-operated humidification or sterilization systems, pneumatic and electronic building control systems, plumbing systems, commercial or industrial laundry equipment, sterilizing equipment, gas or diesel engines and generators, kitchen and cafeteria equipment, mechanical and electrical systems, carpentry, troubleshooting, or welding and fabrication.
  • At least one approved professional trade license, professional trade certification, or another certification or license pre-approved by Facilities and Engineering leadership is required. Accepted examples include plumbing, electrical, HVAC, contractor, medical gas, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, building operator, firestopping, emergency power, or ASHE Certified Health Care Physical Environment Worker credentials.
  • A valid Utah driver's license may be required depending on the department of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hot water systems, boiler theory and function, and chiller system theory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fire barrier theory and National Fire Protection Association requirements for sealing penetrations, fire alarm systems theory, and testing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical gas controls and isolation valve theory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services function and theory for life safety.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer functions.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to perform physical work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects weighing up to 100 pounds, and work near moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, high places, or chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties of a Maintenance Engineer I.
  • Perform carpentry work, including lockset repair, wall-damage repair with patching and painting, window-system repair, and door-system adjustments.
  • Perform mechanical work, including equipment readings, pneumatic-tube repair and cleaning, emergency-generator testing, and emergency-light and battery testing.
  • Perform minor non-licensed electrical repairs to outlets, switches, door magnets, lights, and ballasts.
  • Perform minor plumbing repairs to faucets and shower valves.
  • Test sealing penetrations of fire walls and smoke compartments.
  • Test fire sprinkler and riser systems and perform shutoff procedures.
  • Repair fans, mixing boxes, dampers, cooling towers, air handlers, variable air volume boxes, compressors, and vacuum pumps; perform belt changes and coil cleaning.
  • Complete the required after-hours on-call rotation.
