Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to answer incoming calls from clients, healthcare professionals, and patients.
  • Knowledge of how to label, document, and prepare collected specimens for transport to the laboratory.
  • Ability to verify the accuracy of patient information and specimen labeling.
  • Knowledge of recording and maintaining accurate documentation of waived test results.
  • Knowledge of relevant laboratory safety and infection control protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy, process specimens, handle client inquiries, conduct waived testing, and contribute to pre-analytic laboratory tasks under close supervision.
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood specimens from patients.
  • Receive and accession specimens into the laboratory information system.
  • Prepare and aliquot specimens for various laboratory tests according to established protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies.
  • Provide information regarding specimen collection, test requisitions, and laboratory procedures.
  • Address inquiries and concerns and escalate complex issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable quality control and quality assurance measures.
  • Assist in the preparation and setup of laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Ensure the proper handling and transportation of specimens within the laboratory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems is an asset.
  • Completion of a certified phlebotomy program is preferred.
  • Inpatient or hospital setting experience is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
