Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering field, such as Quality Assurance, Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
  • Five to ten or more years of quality assurance or quality control experience in regulated manufacturing, including FDA-regulated or ISO-certified environments.
  • Experience with FDA 21 CFR requirements, including design controls, corrective and preventive action, complaint handling, and production controls.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems, including internal audits, supplier audits, document control, and risk management.
  • Experience preparing for and participating in FDA inspections and ISO 9001 or FSSC audits.
  • Experience supervising QA teams, inspectors, or cross-functional groups.
  • Strong corrective and preventive action, root-cause analysis, and nonconformance management skills.
  • Experience with supplier quality and external audits.
  • Ability to read, write, listen, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and frequently in plant areas with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and stairs.
  • Ability to use office equipment, follow oral and written instructions, compose professional correspondence, and complete documentation accurately.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the activities of plant Quality Assurance personnel directly or through direct reports.
  • Audit internal and external suppliers and quality programs.
  • Lead ISO standards and ensure Quality Management Systems comply with ISO regulations and company standards.
  • Process customer complaints and customer specifications and coordinate corrective actions related to customer concerns.
  • Provide strategic direction aligned with Performance Minerals and Minerals Technologies goals.
  • Supervise QA personnel and administer performance reviews.
  • Maintain compliance with FDA and worldwide pharmacopeia programs, including cGMP compliance, HACCP, FDA facility registration, ISO 21000, and other food defense programs.
  • Maintain a Quality Assurance program that meets company and customer specifications and standards.
  • Approve laboratory and capital equipment purchases within established limits and ensure testing equipment meets customer, regulatory, and specification requirements.
  • Audit or authorize audits of facility areas and departments for product-quality control conformance.
  • Inspect or authorize inspection of vendor facilities and their quality-control practices and prepare or supervise preparation of material and finished-goods specifications.
  • Determine the acceptability of customer specifications, make recommendations, and negotiate directly with customers when needed.
  • Review Research and Development specifications and control parameters for new products.
  • Prepare or supervise reports tracking conformance to specifications and ensure corrective action is completed for major product defects.
  • Conduct or supervise documentation of training for QA and manufacturing personnel as specified in the Quality Management System.
  • Develop or improve testing methods.
  • Complete or ensure completion of customer regulatory and raw-material supplier questionnaires.
  • Prepare the plant Quality Assurance budget and monitor expenses.
  • Review customer complaints and ensure corrective and preventive actions are pursued.
  • Communicate with commercial teams and corporate groups about customer and product issues.
  • Visit customer sites to maintain relationships and provide assistance.
  • Recommend and coordinate process improvements using company computer systems.
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan aligned with company goals.
  • Champion department continuous-improvement activities, including the Suggestion Program, 5S, Kaizen, TPM, and problem solving.
  • Manage individual employee participation in continuous-improvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minerals Technologies Inc. reported second-quarter sales of $548 million, up 4% year-over-year, with first-half sales reaching $1.1 billion, up 7%. The specialty minerals company posted a reported loss of $5.90 per share, though earnings excluding special items were $1.60 per share, up 3% from the prior year. The company recorded a $290 million charge to fund a trust resolving talc-related claims and its subsidiary's bankruptcy proceedings. CEO Douglas Dietrich said the firm is on track for mid-single digit full-year growth despite absorbing significant inflationary costs that temporarily impacted margins. The Engineered Solutions segment achieved record operating margins of 17.8%, whilst Consumer & Specialties operating income declined 21% due to unfavourable volume mix and higher costs. Minerals Technologies will host an Investor Day on 22 September 2026.

The new officers, who will serve two-year terms, are: * Chair: Mitchell Koppelman * Chair-elect: Diane Ramirez * Treasurer: Mike Lentz * Secretary: Nicole Creech * Immediate Past Chair: Traci Stewart Mitch Koppelman, PhD, is a retired vice president of strategic planning for Minerals Technologies and principal consultant for Mineral Solutions and Strategy, where he provides consulting and advisory services to multinational clients. He and his wife Debbie, who has pulmonary arterial hypertension, lost two daughters to pulmonary arterial hypertension. Koppelman is involved in local government and planning in Sanibel, Florida, and Seaside Park, New Jersey. Diane Ramirez, of Lexington, North Carolina, has served on the PHA board for 14 years. In September 2023, she underwent heart and lung transplant after living with PH for 36 years. Her primary motivation to help PHA with its mission comes from losing a brother and two sisters to PAH. She wants to help as many patients as possible. She has been involved with PHA advocacy and awareness since 2006. Mike Lentz, of Louisville, Kentucky, lost his wife Maureen to PH in 2016. He is managing director of the Jacksonville market for Nelson Worldwide, which specializes in the design of large-scale, mixed-use real estate developments throughout the United States. He has a long history of fundraising and supporting PH-related causes and served on PHA's finance and development committees. Nicole Creech, of Lexington, Kentucky, joined PHA in 2016 and became a volunteer to help find a cure. She also wanted to be empowered by hope and share that hope with others. She formerly chaired the Finance Committee and sits on several committees to provide a patient perspective. In her spare time, Creech serves her community as an end-of-life doula. She's also a court-appointed child advocate and enjoys visiting assisted living facilities with her Morkie, Teddy. Traci Stewart, RN, MSN, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, is a PH nurse clinician at Iowa Health Care's Heart and Vascular Center. She coordinates care as patients transition from inpatient and outpatient settings. Stewart has over 20 years of clinical expertise in managing pulmonary hypertension and heart failure patients. Her focus is providing patient, nurse and community education. New board members Jessie Dunne, PharmD, BCPS, BCCP, FACC, is a clinical pharmacist for advanced heart failure and transplant at Oregon Health and Science University. Dan Grinnan, MD, is medical director of the PHA-accredited PH Care Center at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Marcie McGregor joined PHA in 2012 soon after she was diagnosed with PAH. She founded and leads a PHA support group in Augusta, Georgia. George Peoples, MD, FACS, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, became a PHA volunteer five years ago after his daughter was diagnosed with PH. A retired Army colonel, he is the executive medical director of Avance Clinical's Oncology Center of Excellence. Jim White, MD, is the founding director of the pulmonary arterial hypertension program at the University of Rochester Medical Center, a PHA-accredited Comprehensive Care Center. Minerals Technologies Inc. has published its 18th Sustainability Report, announcing it achieved all 12 environmental targets set in 2018 and established new 10-year goals through 2035. The New York-based specialty minerals company reduced Scope 1 emissions by 34% and Scope 2 emissions by 42% in absolute terms, exceeding its original targets. MTI also cut landfill waste by 44%, more than doubling its 20% reduction target, and decreased water withdrawal by 31%. In 2025, 67% of the company's new products had a sustainable profile. MTI achieved a record-low injury rate of 0.54, with 92% of sites operating injury-free. The company reported global sales of $2.1 billion in 2025 and employs 4,000 people across 34 countries.

Minerals Technologies proposes $450M trust for talc claims in BMI OldCo bankruptcy plan

Minerals Technologies Inc. has filed a plan of reorganisation in the Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases of its subsidiary BMI OldCo Inc. and affiliated debtors. The filing meets a court-imposed deadline whilst broader disputes remain pending before the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas. The plan proposes a $450 million trust fund to address current and future talc-related claims, with a channeling injunction protecting non-debtor affiliates. MTI maintains that BMI OldCo's talc products are safe and the lawsuits are meritless. The company will record a $290 million charge in Q2 2026 to increase reserves for estimated costs. MTI continues funding the debtors' administrative expenses whilst awaiting the district court's determination on whether BMI OldCo's talc contained asbestos.
