Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience in investment banking, principal investing, or M&A advisory.
  • A relevant education or degree.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and transaction execution skills.
  • Strong quantitative and statistical analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on companies, commodities, and market themes relevant to metals, mining, and power.
  • Build and maintain financial models to evaluate investment opportunities, assess risk, and support transaction structuring.
  • Support due diligence workstreams, including financial, commercial, and technical analysis coordinated with external advisers.
  • Help prepare investment committee materials, including investment memoranda and supporting analysis.
  • Contribute to ongoing portfolio monitoring across the strategy's investments, including financial performance and milestone tracking.
  • Support year-end valuation processes for portfolio investments.
  • Travel when required for due diligence or portfolio monitoring.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pursuing the Chartered Financial Analyst, Certified Public Accountant, or Master's degree in Business or Economics.
  • VBA or Python experience.

Air Canada unlocks $2.5B from Aeroplan in 25% stake sale to Blackstone and Canadian institutions

Air Canada is selling a 25% stake in its Aeroplan loyalty programme to an investor group led by Blackstone and La Caisse for $2.5 billion, valuing the programme at $10 billion. The airline will retain 75% ownership and full operational control. Air Canada plans to use the proceeds to repay a US$1.2 billion debt maturity and fund share buybacks, including an $800 million substantial issuer bid expected to complete in September. The investor group also includes PSP Investments and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Air Canada retains the right to repurchase the investors' stake between the fifth and eighth anniversaries of the transaction. The investment is scheduled to settle on 17 August 2026.

Canada's Dominion Dynamics raises $51.6M to build autonomous combat aircraft for Arctic ops

Dominion Dynamics, an Ottawa-based defence technology startup, has secured C$50 million from Canada's National Research Council and C$21 million in seed funding led by Georgian to develop Canada's first autonomous combat aircraft. The round included participation from Bessemer Venture Partners and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation. Founded by former Anduril Industries executive Erik Pence, the company is developing an Autonomous Collaborative Platform designed to operate alongside Royal Canadian Air Force F-35A fighters in Arctic missions. The delta-wing aircraft, internally called "Scout", will carry heavy weapons payloads and operate over thousands of miles using satellite communications. Dominion Dynamics plans to complete a subscale prototype within 18 months and is relocating to a 35,000-square-foot facility near Ottawa on 1 June to support manufacturing and testing.

Photonic raises $200M at $2B valuation to scale quantum computing across telecom networks

Photonic Inc., a Vancouver-based quantum computing company, has closed an investment round of over $200 million USD ($275 million CAD), achieving a $2 billion USD ($2.7 billion CAD) post-money valuation. The round was led by UK-based Planet First Partners, bringing Photonic's total capital raised to over $350 million USD ($475 million CAD). New investors include Business Development Bank of Canada, Export Development Canada, Bell Ventures, Firgun Ventures and InBC Investment Corp. The round's first close in January 2026 attracted Royal Bank of Canada, TELUS, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and Microsoft. Photonic is developing fault-tolerant quantum computing through its Entanglement First Architecture, which combines silicon-based qubits with photonic connectivity that scales across existing telecom infrastructure. The company employs over 160 people across operations in Canada, the United States and United Kingdom.
