Requirements
  • Management Experience - You've managed Sales Engineering (or similar) executives, ideally with a team managing a variety of deal types (persona, customer size, technical complexity)
  • Love for Data - You come from the data ecosystem (database, CDP, BI, ETL, etc) and are passionate and knowledgeable about the modern data stack
  • Sales Engineer experience/Technical Background - 3+ years experience in a sales engineering (or similar) role working with technical products. Alternatively (or additionally) experience as an analytics engineer or sales/marketing/revenue operations within a tech startup is also useful
  • Proficiency in SQL and knowledge of database best practices and troubleshooting. Nice-to-haves: knowledge of data modeling, integration, orchestration, working with APIs, and/or Customer Data Platforms
  • Customer empathy - Ability to understand customer needs, clearly communicate tradeoffs (written and verbal), influence technical audiences, and translate that into technical solutions. Experience demonstrating and articulating product value to operations teams (marketing, customer success, sales, product, or finance)
  • Self-motivation - Desire to act as a Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) in a startup environment without the structure of big companies. Proven ability to problem-solve your way through issues along and with teams
  • Curiosity - Interest in learning and exploring, experimenting, and teaching others
  • Working knowledge in Python/JavaScript to interact with SaaS APIs
  • Working knowledge of best practices and troubleshooting for connecting to databases
  • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Curiosity to learn, share, and teach technical information
  • Comfortable with sales targets and collaborating with teams to ensure sales are achieved
  • Nice-to-haves: knowledge of data modeling, integration, orchestration, or Customer Data Platforms
Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of four and responsibly grow and enable the team to help achieve our goals
  • Define onboarding and training processes for new employees and assist with overall revenue team onboarding as it relates to product training
  • Coach individual SEs on how to improve their demos, POCs, technical acumen, and sales methodology
  • Provide regular, consistent, and clear feedback and actions for engineering and product stakeholders regarding prospect and customer requests
  • Deeply and continuously work to understand our customer and our technology so that you can communicate the value to internal and external stakeholders effectively
  • Consult prospects to understand the technical “art of the possible” of the Census product, as well as use cases and best practices
  • Assist and at times, act to take ownership of customer's technical evaluation. Ensure that all technical issues, questions, and concerns of product fit are clearly resolved
  • Collaborate as the technical liaison between Census sales and engineering teams
  • Help ensure the technical sale is won and that this feeds into winning the deal
  • Codify and share how-to's in our documentation and internal knowledge base
