A Point72 Long/short equities investment team is looking for a Data Engineer to join their team. In this role, you will work hand in hand with the investment team to connect the dots between fundamental research and data.

Long/short discretionary equity is Point72’s core investment strategy and its success depends on our sector-based investing teams, comprised of Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts. As an ever-increasing volume and variety of data are used to drive fundamental equity strategies, Data Engineers placed on portfolio manager teams serve as a key resource for many of our investing professionals.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will work hand in hand with an investment team to connect the dots between fundamental research and data. The projects that you will be working on will be run both on prem and in AWS, utilizing technologies like Kafka, Spark, Cloud warehouses and Data Lakes using Java, Python and SQL.
Specifically, your role will be to:
- Integrate and process Compliance-approved structured and unstructured data
- Form quantitative insights that can help the investment team formulate investment ideas
- Build tools and infrastructure to digest and maintain the team’s quant efforts
- Collaborate with the portfolio manager and team of analysts to identify potential opportunities for integrating AI and machine learning applications into the team’s investment process
What’s required?
We are looking for someone with intellectual curiosity, a creative mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to take initiative on projects with limited guidance. No prior experience in fundamental equities or finance is needed. Specifically, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- 2 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, C++ etc)
- Experience with statistical software (pandas, R, MATLAB etc) and SQL
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work well in a changing environment
